Tourney Grounds
The Tourney Grounds serve as the grand arena hub in the Duchy of Toussaint where knights gather to test their prowess in combat, horsemanship, and archery. Geralt first arrives here chasing a beast during the main story before taking Guillaume's place in the competitions to unravel a dark curse during the quest "The Warble of a Smitten Knight". Visitors can partake in festival events, practice at the shooting and horse ranges, play Gwent, or shop among various tourney craftspeople.

What matters
- •Winning every tournament event to obtain unique name-specific swords, saddles, shields, and the crossbow.
- •Registering under your chosen name (Geralt of Rivia or Ravix of Fourhorn) to earn its corresponding heraldic equipment.
- •Completing all events of "The Warble of a Smitten Knight" before starting "Capture the Castle".
Common mistakes
- •Failing any single competition event, which permanently forfeits the Tourney Victor's Sword and your admirer fan.
- •Launching the main quest "Capture the Castle" prematurely, which permanently fails and locks the tournament questline.
- •Expecting to acquire both Geralt of Rivia and Ravix of Fourhorn gear sets in a single run, as enrolling locks you out of the other identity's prizes.

-
1
Arrive at the Tourney Arena
When you first arrive at the Tourney Grounds while chasing the beast during "The Beast of Toussaint", enter the Tourney Grounds Arena to confront a captive beast. Defeat the Shaelmaar in the arena pit, then make your way to the medics' tent situated on the eastern side of the grounds. There you will meet Guillaume de Launfal, who initiates the quest "The Warble of a Smitten Knight".
Key fight: Arena ShaelmaarTip: Use the Tourney Grounds fast travel signpost to easily return to this hub later.
-
2
Explore the Artisan Stalls and Camps
Before committing to the tournament, explore the artisan stalls and contestant pavilions across the camp. Head to the blacksmith's shop to loot the Information for Tournament Participants from a table, then inspect the small table outside Damien de la Tour's tent south-southwest of the blacksmith to find Crespi’s file. Continue into the round tent situated directly west of Damien de la Tour's tent to claim the Letter to Donimir, visit Prince Anséis' round tent north of the inn to read Anséis' Letter, and check the southeasternmost of the three contestant tents west of the arena for Guillaume's Scrap Paper.
Tip: A blacksmith, armorer, innkeeper, and barber offer crafting, repairs, provisions, and grooming throughout the camp.
Watch out: Starting the main quest "Capture the Castle" permanently locks out and fails "The Warble of a Smitten Knight".
-
3
Register at the Inscription Tent
Approach the scribe at the Inscription Tent to enter the tournament, choosing whether to enroll as Geralt of Rivia or Ravix of Fourhorn. If you register under Geralt of Rivia, the scribe automatically awards you Sir Geralt of Rivia’s Shield; enrolling under Ravix of Fourhorn grants Sir Ravix of Fourhorn’s Shield instead. Whichever persona you do not select permanently locks you out of that identity's specific tourney rewards.
Tip: Note that there is no underground dungeon on the grounds; the cave tied to Vivienne's quest sits entirely outside the tournament area.
Watch out: Choosing one identity permanently locks out the shield, saddle, and sword of the other persona.
-
4
Compete in the Archery Contest
Head over to the Shooting Range to take part in the tournament's archery shooting contest. Hit your targets accurately to claim victory in this first trial. If you are registered under Geralt of Rivia and win the competition, you are awarded Geralt of Rivia's crossbow.
Watch out: Losing the archery match forfeits Geralt of Rivia's crossbow and breaks a flawless tournament run.
-
5
Run the Horseback Race Track
Mount up at the Race Track to compete in the tournament's mounted speed contest. Guide your horse through the course and cross the finish line ahead of your rivals to claim the victory. Winning the race awards Sir Geralt of Rivia's saddle if registered as Geralt, or Sir Ravix of Fourhorn’s saddle if registered under your alternate guise.
Watch out: Failing to win the race prevents you from acquiring your persona's saddle and voids a complete victory.
-
6
Confront Rivals and Win the Melee
Face off against your rivals across the grounds, handling a confrontation or duel before stepping back onto the sands for the arena team melee. Work with your allies to overpower the opposing team in the arena colosseum. Triumphing here qualifies you for the final championship showdown.
Watch out: Dropping any event permanently bars you from the final champion's sword rewards.
-
7
Defeat Gregoire de Gorgon and Claim Victory
Step into the Tourney Arena for the concluding championship battle against Gregoire de Gorgon. Bring down the arena champion to secure Duchess Anna Henrietta's presentation of the Tourney Victor's Sword (Geralt of Rivia), or the Tourney Victor's Sword (Ravix of Fourhorn) if fighting as Ravix. After prevailing in every single competition event, return to your pavilion tent west of the arena to find multiple love letters from admirers, accompanied by an enthusiastic female fan who spawns outside to follow you around cheering.
Key fight: Champion of the Arena: Gregoire de GorgonWatch out: Advancing to "Capture the Castle" or suffering a loss in any prior event permanently misses the Tourney Victor's Sword.

Tournament Registration Identity
When enrolling at the Inscription Tent for the tournament
- Register as Geralt of Rivia→ Grants Sir Geralt of Rivia's Shield, and makes Geralt of Rivia's crossbow, Sir Geralt of Rivia's saddle, and Tourney Victor's Sword (Geralt of Rivia) obtainable by winning the shooting, racing, and arena champion events
- Register as Ravix of Fourhorn→ Grants Sir Ravix of Fourhorn's Shield, and makes Sir Ravix of Fourhorn's saddle and Tourney Victor's Sword (Ravix of Fourhorn) obtainable by winning the horse race and defeating the arena champion
Point of no return: Advancing to the main quest "Capture the Castle" permanently locks out these rewards and tournament completion.

Enemies: Shaelmaar
Threats: Thick armored shell immune to regular strikes; high-speed rolling attacks and seismic shockwave slams.
Tactics: Avoid attacking its armored front. Stand near the arena boundaries; when the Shaelmaar rolls toward Geralt, dodge aside so it collides with the stone wall. The impact flips it onto its back, exposing its soft underbelly to heavy strikes and Aard blasts.
Enemies: Gregoire de Gorgon
Threats: Colossal two-handed broadsword strikes with wide reach that break normal parries.
Tactics: Do not attempt to parry his heavy swings. Dodge-roll behind him when he winds up a vertical overhead chop, deliver fast strikes to his back, and use Quen to safeguard against glancing blows.
Shops and people
- Blacksmith: Journeyman-level weapon crafting, weapon repairs, dismantling, runestone diagrams, crafting materials, and Gwent matches for a Skellige deck card
Tips
- Complete all desired events and side objectives in the Tourney Grounds before advancing into the late-game main quest "Capture the Castle," as doing so will permanently fail "The Warble of a Smitten Knight" and lock out the tournament.
