  • •Buying the Commander's Horn and Siege Engineer cards directly from the innkeeper behind the bar counter.
  • •Challenging the innkeeper during "Gwent: Playing Innkeeps" to win the Menno Coehoorn card.
  • •Picking up "Contract: Missing Brother" from Bruno at the corner table in the taproom.
  • •Gathering information about Hendrik and the Bloody Baron from the innkeeper for "The Nilfgaardian Connection."

Common mistakes

  • •Choosing aggressive dialogue with the Baron's henchmen at the tavern door, which triggers a fight that can make the innkeeper flee and lock you out of his Gwent cards.
  • •Searching the tavern for a player stash chest, which is not located here but rather inside Ciri's former room at Crow's Perch.

Walkthrough May be incomplete

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

  1. 1

    Reach the settlement

As you follow the main quest "The Nilfgaardian Connection" from Hanged Man's Tree, make your way to the Inn at the Crossroads. You can discover the "Inn at the Crossroads" fast travel signpost here and check the notice board positioned along the outdoor village perimeter. Before heading inside the tavern building, note that no player stash chest exists within this area, with the closest one located in Ciri's former room over at Crow's Perch.

Tip: Use the signpost to easily return to this hub later.

Watch out: Do not look for your player stash here, as the nearest container is situated in Crow's Perch.

  2. 2

    Confront the Baron's thugs

Step inside the central tavern landmark, where the Bloody Baron's henchmen will confront you and the other patrons directly at the tavern doorway during "The Nilfgaardian Connection". If you select aggressive dialogue choices during this encounter, you will trigger a battle right inside the taproom against these men. Should a fight break out, defeat the attackers and loot their bodies for minor coin, blunt axes, and rusty Novigrad swords.

Watch out: Picking aggressive dialogue provokes a brawl that can cause the innkeeper to flee or hide, which risks making his Gwent cards temporarily or permanently inaccessible.

  3. 3

Question the innkeeper and meet Bruno

Walk further into the taproom to find the innkeeper stationed behind the bar counter, where he operates as a food and drink vendor. Inquire with him about the Bloody Baron and the spy Hendrik to proceed with your main investigation. While in the room, you can also spot Bruno seated at a corner table to take on the quest "Contract: Missing Brother."

Tip: Talk to Bruno in the corner before departing to secure his contract.

  4. 4

Win and purchase cards from the innkeeper

Approach the bar counter again to view the innkeeper's card inventory and challenge him to a match. You can buy the Commander's Horn and Siege Engineer cards with crowns directly from his shop inventory. Finally, play and defeat him in a match of Gwent during "Gwent: Playing Innkeeps" to earn the Menno Coehoorn card.

Watch out: If you fought the thugs earlier and scared off the innkeeper, you may miss the chance to play him for Menno Coehoorn or purchase his cards.

Choices here

What you decide here and what it leads to.

Confronting the Baron's Henchmen

Upon entering the tavern doorway during "The Nilfgaardian Connection"

  • Aggressive dialogue choices→ Triggers a combat encounter to kill the thugs (dropping minor coin, blunt axes, and rusty Novigrad swords), but causes the innkeeper to flee or hide, risking the loss of access to his vendor cards and Gwent match
  • Peaceful/non-aggressive dialogue choices→ Avoids combat with the henchmen, keeping the innkeeper accessible to buy cards and win the Menno Coehoorn card

Most players pick: Peaceful dialogue choices

Fighting the thugs can render the innkeeper's Gwent match and purchasable cards temporarily or permanently inaccessible
