The short version

What matters

  • •Resolving the unmarked confrontation Looters (III) in the village square.
  • •Plundering the diagram for Enhanced Feline Boots inside the cave situated directly east of the settlement.
  • •Looting the guarded chest and crates at the bandit campsite north-northwest along the road.

Common mistakes

  • •Entering the village and walking away without engaging the scavengers; doing so causes them to kill each other off-screen and permanently misses the unmarked event Looters (III).
  • •Searching the settlement for local services; there are no merchants, traders, or craftsmen anywhere in Toderas.

Walkthrough May be incomplete

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

  1. 1

    Arrive at Toderas

Follow the road through southeastern Velen until you reach the Toderas Fast Travel Signpost at the settlement's entrance. The village ahead lies completely abandoned, having been thoroughly ransacked. Keep in mind that no vendors, merchants, traders, or crafting upgrade services can be found anywhere in this settlement.

  2. 2

Confront the rival looters in the village center

Walk into the village square where two opposing bands of scavengers are quarreling amid the remains of the slaughtered locals over their belongings, triggering the unmarked random encounter Looters (III). Getting close starts a dialogue where you must decide whether to personally step in and execute them or allow the two factions to slaughter each other.

Tip: You can let the opposing looter groups fight each other rather than fighting them yourself.

Watch out: The encounter Looters (III) is permanently missable if you step into the settlement and walk away without interacting, because the factions will kill each other off and be replaced by necrophages.

  3. 3

Explore the cave to the east

Head directly east from the village to find a nearby cave. Head inside the cavern and search the interior to locate a chest containing the diagram for Enhanced Feline Boots.

  4. 4

Return to the village for necrophages

Fast travel away to another region such as White Orchard or Skellige, or leave the area entirely after clearing or settling the primary encounter with the scavengers.

  5. 5

Clear the roadside ambush to the north

Travel along the path leading directly north or northwest from the Toderas Signpost toward the border of Grayrocks and the Descent. Eliminate the hostile bandits waiting in ambush by the roadside and around the dilapidated huts near their wagons. Once they are slain, activate your Witcher Senses to spot and plunder the guarded crates and chest by their campsite.

Tip: Activate Witcher Senses to easily spot the guarded chest and crates near the bandit wagons.

Intervening in the looters' dispute

Upon encountering two rival gangs arguing over corpses in the village square during Looters III

  • Intervene→ Geralt fights and kills the looters himself
  • Let them fight each other→ The rival groups fight among themselves without Geralt intervening directly

This encounter is permanently missable if you enter Toderas and leave without interacting, causing the looters to kill each other and be replaced by necrophages.

Checklists

Enemies

Hostile scavengers who argue over the spoils during the unmarked encounter "Looters".

Tougher scavengers that infest the village after the looters are cleared out.

Devourer
Weak to Necrophage Oil, IgniSteal / drop Devourer's blood

Necrophages that arrive alongside Alghouls to feed on the corpses and detonate right before dying.

Tips
