← All areas in this guide

Lornruk is an abandoned coastal fortress with a raised drawbridge situated at the far northwestern tip of Velen. To access the fortress interior, you must bypass the raised bridge by swimming through a submerged underwater cavern beneath the cliffs. Inside, you lower the bridge with a wheel mechanism and locate crafting plans related to the School of the Griffin while dealing with an airborne wyvern nesting overhead.

The short version

What matters

  • •Diagram: Griffin Silver Sword found in a chest on the upper exterior wooden platform of the ruined lighthouse.
  • •The Quen Place of Power situated at the foot of the sea cliffs on the right side of the fortress.
  • •Lowering the drawbridge via the courtyard winch to open a direct shortcut across the chasm.

Common mistakes

  • •Trying to force entry through the front gate while the bridge is up; descend to the shoreline cave or leap the chasm gap instead.
  • •Expecting guaranteed monster parts from the Level 14 Wyvern, as a known glitch can leave it completely empty of loot.
  • •Worrying about permanently missing the sword diagram, Place of Power, or sunken treasures, as none of them lock out and all remain accessible post-game.

What you can skip

  • •Searching for vendors or quest givers, as Lornruk is entirely deserted aside from hostile monsters.

Walkthrough

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

  1. 1

    Approach Lornruk

Follow the road bordering the Pontar River to reach the far northwestern peninsula of Velen and discover the ruined fortress perched on a sea crag. Check in at the Lornruk fast-travel signpost placed right before the raised drawbridge to register an autosave point. Notice that the drawbridge is pulled up and that no merchants or friendly NPCs reside in this abandoned ruin.

  2. 2

Draw from the Shoreline Place of Power

Head to the right side of the raised drawbridge and carefully slide or climb down the rocky cliffside to the water's edge. At the base of the cliffs right along the shoreline, locate the magic stone. Interact with this Quen Place of Power to absorb its magic.

  3. 3

Scour the Sunken Caches and Submerged Cavern

Dive into the waters at the base of the sea cliffs and eliminate the hostile Drowners using your underwater crossbow. Use Witcher Senses to spot and plunder the submerged chests and barrels sitting on the seabed and inside the subterranean cave directly under the lighthouse. Then swim into the underwater tunnel and make your way to a climbing well to infiltrate the fortress interior.

    Key fight: Drowners

Tip: Use your underwater crossbow to cleanly take down the swimming Drowners.

  4. 4

    Lower the Drawbridge Shortcut

Climb out of the well into the ruined courtyard and locate the wooden winch wheel set beside the fortress gate. Interact with the winch mechanism to lower the drawbridge spanning the chasm back to the signpost, unlocking the bridge shortcut. Alternatively, note that this courtyard can be reached by jumping the gap across the broken drawbridge.

  5. 5

    Slay the Wyvern

Turn your attention to the Level 14 Wyvern nesting high around the lighthouse ruins and broken bridge. Bring down the airborne beast, though be aware that while it can drop components like a Wyvern Hide, Wyvern Egg, or Wyvern Mutagen, a known game bug often causes it to yield no loot at all.

Watch out: A known bug may cause the defeated Wyvern to drop no loot upon death.

  6. 6

Claim the Griffin Silver Sword Diagram

Climb the ladders up the ruined lighthouse keep to reach an exterior upper wooden platform and balcony. Locate the loot chest resting on the wooden scaffolding near the ladder and open it. Inside, collect the Diagram: Griffin Silver Sword before heading on your way.
