Crow's Perch (Underground)

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition guide · Exploring the Baron's cellar/caves ✓ Checked against sources
← All areas in this guide

This flooded subterranean cavern provides a covert entrance beneath Crow's Perch if the front gates are locked after a confrontation at the Crossroads Inn. Geralt swims into the cavern through an underwater cave mouth, climbs natural rock terraces, deals with a monster lurking in the dark, and scales a ladder inside a stone well to emerge in the inner garden courtyard.

The short version

What matters

  • •Defeating the low-level Water Hag to harvest venom extract, a Water hag tooth, and random items like water hag mutagens.
  • •Opening the chest resting against the cavern wall to the right of the water beneath the well to obtain Diagram: Enhanced Wolven Silver Sword.
  • •Searching both the submerged floor and elevated rock ledges for chests holding coin, crafting components, and alchemical ingredients.

Common mistakes

  • •Entering Crow's Perch peacefully through the main fortress gate, which permanently locks you out of using the outside underwater tunnel as an infiltration route.
  • •Searching this underground cavern for the Altar to the Eternal Fire or A Written Prayer, which actually reside in the basement beneath the Baron's manor house.
  • •Expecting to find friendly quest NPCs, merchants, or blacksmith services inside this subterranean passage.

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

  1. 1

    Infiltrate via the Moat

When you arrive at the moat northwest of Crow's Perch during "Bloody Baron", swim into the underwater cavern entrance to access the subterranean cave connecting to the fortress. If you killed the Baron's men at the Inn at the Crossroads and were turned away at the main gate, navigate this flooded entrance channel. Dive underwater with Witcher Senses or a Killer Whale potion to loot the submerged chests scattered across the deep pool floor.

Tip: Using a Killer Whale potion or Witcher Senses helps pinpoint submerged containers.

Watch out: You can permanently miss sneaking in via this outside underwater tunnel if you enter Crow's Perch peacefully through the front gate.

  2. 2

    Battle the Water Hag

Surface from the underwater pool into the main cavern chamber and prepare for combat. Slay the low-level Water Hag lurking near the subterranean pool along the flooded tunnel network. Loot her remains to gather a Water hag tooth, venom extract, and random ingredients like water hag mutagens.

  3. 3

    Scour the Rock Ledges

Drink a Cat potion to improve visibility as you mantle-climb the elevated stone outcrops near the ascent to the garden well. Open the various chests along these dry ledges and cavern floors to secure randomized coin, alchemical ingredients, and crafting materials.

Tip: Drinking a Cat potion will greatly help your visibility when mantle-climbing dark ledges.

  4. 4

    Search Beneath the Well

Move toward the vertical dry well shaft that opens up into the Baron's garden. Before ascending, inspect the right cavern wall facing the water directly beneath the well. Open the chest resting against this wall to claim Diagram: Enhanced Wolven Silver Sword.

  5. 5

    Ascend to the Garden

Climb up the vertical dry well shaft to emerge inside the garden within Crow's Perch. You can later return and descend this garden well into the cave whenever you need to revisit the underground area. Note that there are no friendly quest NPCs, merchants, blacksmiths, or vendors in this subterranean passage.
