The short version

What matters

  • •Talk to Keira during "An Invitation from Keira Metz" to accept her request and receive the Xenovox.
  • •Buy the Potion of Clearance, crafting recipes, and magical goods from Keira while she is stationed at her hut.
  • •Loot the interior furniture and cellar tinderbox to acquire the Recipe for Black Eyeliner, Letter to Alexander, and Manuscript page: Albedo.

Common mistakes

  • •Postponing Keira's secondary quest until late in the game; entering "The Isle of Mists" permanently fails her questline.
  • •Delaying the purchase of the Potion of Clearance from Keira, as her vendor inventory here becomes permanently inaccessible once her questline moves to Fyke Isle.

What you can skip

  • •You can bypass scanning the safe cottage exterior for enemies, as the yard and porch have no threats or boss encounters.

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

  1. 1

    Approach the Cottage

When you arrive northeast of Midcopse during the main quest "Hunting a Witch," observe the exterior garden near the Midcopse fast travel signpost. You will see a small crowd of local peasants gathered by the porch and front door seeking cures and fortune-telling from the "witch."

Watch out: There are no combat encounters in this safe yard, so keep your weapons sheathed.

  2. 2

    Search the Main Living Area

Step through the front entrance into the kitchen and living room of the two-room cottage. Check the various sacks and containers for minor random loot and crafting materials, then grab the Recipe for Black Eyeliner sitting directly on the table opposite the front door.

  3. 3

    Investigate the Bedroom

Head into the bedroom and inspect the furniture with Witcher Senses to find the Letter to Alexander directly on Keira's bed. Search the loot chest located inside the cottage to obtain the Torn-out page: Dimeritium Bomb formula before proceeding further.

  4. 4

    Loot the Cellar

Locate the trapdoor on the floor and climb down into the underground cellar beneath the cottage. Gather additional crafting materials and minor random loot from the containers, making sure to open the tinderbox to secure the Manuscript page: Albedo.

  5. 5

    Step Through the Secret Portal

Return to the bedroom where you will trigger a cutscene showing Keira Metz vanishing into a magical teleportation portal. Interact with the enchanted passage concealed behind a tapestry in the bedroom to transport Geralt directly into an underground elven bath chamber sub-location where Keira is bathing behind an illusion.

  6. 6

    Return for an Invitation

After concluding the exploration of the elven ruins, return to Keira Metz's hut during the secondary quest "An Invitation from Keira Metz." Talk to Keira inside her living area and bedroom to accept her Fyke Isle task, which awards you the Xenovox.

Watch out: This questline and the Xenovox will be permanently failed if you do not finish it before traveling to the Isle of Mists in "The Isle of Mists."

  7. 7

    Trade with Keira Metz

Before completing her personal questline, browse Keira Metz's inventory inside the cottage while she operates as a vendor. Purchase valuable goods such as the Potion of Clearance, glyphs, runes, diagrams, and alchemy ingredients directly from her.

Tip: Stock up on the Potion of Clearance early if you plan to reallocate your character abilities.

Watch out: Buying items from Keira at her cottage is permanently locked out once her questline moves to Fyke Isle and she either dies or relocates to Kaer Morhen.
