Oreton
Oreton is a lakeside hamlet situated directly south of Crow's Perch and north of Fyke Isle. While exploring the region during the search for the Baron's wife in "Family Matters," this village offers no clues about Anna—who is actually found in Crookback Bog—serving instead as an auxiliary hub for services, contracts, and side encounters. Players can visit the notice board here to pick up regional contracts or consult local craftsmen for trading and Gwent.

The short version
What matters
- •Oreton's Notice Board provides essential contracts including Contract: The Mystery of the Byways Murders, Wild at Heart, and Contract: The Beast of Honorton.
- •Playing Gwent against the Boatwright by the docks progresses the quest Gwent: Velen Players.
- •Resolving A Towerful of Mice inside the Fisherman's Hut leaves Graham's Remains in the village if you bring Anabelle's remains to him.
- •Escorting Millie to her aunt and returning seven in-game days later rewards you with Millie's Drawing.
Common mistakes
- •Assuming Letho of Gulet is in Oreton or won from the local Boatwright; Letho is actually located at Reardon Manor east of Lindenvale.
- •Finishing Family Matters before challenging the Boatwright, which permanently locks out playing Gwent against him.
- •Delaying A Towerful of Mice until starting The Isle of Mists, which auto-fails the quest entirely.
Walkthrough
The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.
-
1
Arrive at Oreton
When you ride south from Crow's Perch or Blackbough, travel west from Lindenvale, or steer a boat north along Lake Wyndamer from Fyke Isle, you will reach the village entrance on the lake's southern shore. Discover the Oreton signpost situated along the roadway at the village entrance to activate the local fast travel point and manual or autosave triggers.
Tip: Use the signpost to easily return here whenever you need local services.
-
2
Check the Notice Board
Head toward the center of the settlement to locate the Oreton Notice Board. Reading the board provides postings that list Contract: The Mystery of the Byways Murders, Wild at Heart, and Contract: The Beast of Honorton.
-
3
Visit the Village Craftsmen and Enlist Milan Noran
Walk among the settlement stalls to find a Merchant operating at his roadside vendor stall, alongside an amateur Blacksmith stationed near his outdoor forge. Right outside near the blacksmith, speak with the Nilfgaardian patrol commander, Milan Noran, to pick up Contract: The Mystery of the Byways Murders.
-
4
Challenge the Boatwright at the Docks
Make your way down to the waterfront Lake Wyndamer docks and shoreline area where the Boatwright works alongside the boats and jetty. Challenge this craftsman to a match for the secondary quest Gwent: Velen Players.
Tip: Challenge the Boatwright to Gwent before progressing the main story too far.
Watch out: You will be locked out of playing Gwent against the Boatwright if you finish Family Matters without completing the Gwent quest chain.
-
5
Confront Graham in his Fisherman's Hut
Step inside the Fisherman's Hut within the village to locate Graham during the secondary quest A Towerful of Mice. If you deliver Anabelle's remains directly to him from Fyke Isle, Graham is slain by Anabelle inside this hut, leaving Graham's Remains right where he falls.
Watch out: Graham's remains will not appear here if you take Graham to Fyke Isle instead, and A Towerful of Mice fails permanently if left unfinished before starting The Isle of Mists.
-
6
Reunite with Millie
Return to Oreton after having escorted the orphan girl Millie to her aunt in the village and meditate or wait approximately seven in-game days. Approach Millie as she waits in the settlement to trigger a cutscene event where you receive Millie's Drawing.
Watch out: You will never spawn this encounter or obtain the drawing if you do not escort Millie to her aunt, or if you kill Gaetan rather than sparing him in Where the Cat and Wolf Play...
-
7
Head East from the Settlement
Journey just east of the village boundary where a roadside encounter triggers the secondary quest A Dog's Life.
