The short version

What matters

  • •Accept "Contract: The Tufo Monster" from Jean-Christophe de Bourbeau to gain the cellar key and explore beneath the estate.
  • •Clear the cellar rubble in the collapsed house north of Flovive to collect Tufo's journal and three Grandmaster Ursine diagrams.
  • •Slay the Monster of Tufo to obtain the Shaelmaar Trophy, monster crafting materials, and the relic silver sword Ami.

Common mistakes

  • •Defeating the Shaelmaar without looting Jean-Luc's remains in the caves permanently forfeits the silver pendant and its related dialogue options.
  • •Leaving the underground tunnels unexplored before turning in the contract, because the owner permanently seals the cracked cellar wall afterward.

What you can skip

  • •Do not look for vendors, traders, or crafting stations here, as none are located on the estate grounds.

Walkthrough

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

  1. 1

    Approaching Tufo Vineyard

When you travel along the road from Flovive or cross the central Toussaint countryside, head toward the Tufo Vineyard fast travel signpost at the estate entrance. You will find the surrounding vine fields, worker quarters, and the estate manor house, though no merchants or crafting services are present. Near the leaning, collapsed house on the grounds just north of Flovive, enter its cellar, blast the rubble at the back with Aard, and loot the chest on the right for Tufo's journal along with diagrams for Grandmaster Ursine armor, gauntlets, and silver sword.

Tip: Search the collapsed house cellar right away to secure the Grandmaster gear diagrams.

  2. 2

    Meeting the Estate Owners

Approach the manor house to meet the estate owner Monsieur Jean-Christophe de Bourbeau on the grounds and his wife Madame Andrée de Bourbeau near the main house. Speak with Jean-Christophe to trigger "Contract: The Tufo Monster" and accept the job to investigate the strange tremors. Upon agreeing to take the contract, he will give you the Key to Tufo cellar, which is needed to gain entry to the sub-location below the manor.

  3. 3

    Breaching the Cellar Tunnels

Head down into the wine cellar beneath the manor and wait inside until nightfall arrives to trigger the subterranean tremors. Activate your Witcher Senses to pinpoint the cracked section along the southern wall, then blast through it using the Aard sign. This exposes an underground dungeon of tunnels and caves crawling with kikimores and their eggs.

Tip: Wait until darkness falls before scanning the southern wall, or the tremors will not trigger.

Watch out: Finish exploring behind the cracked wall before completing the contract, as the owner permanently seals it afterward.

  4. 4

    Tracking the Beast to Jean-Luc

Follow the monster's tracks deeper through the subterranean caves beneath the estate toward the remains of the farmhand Jean-Luc. When you locate his body inside the underground cave network, examine the ground beside him to pick up the silver pendant containing a lock of hair. Once you have searched the cave, continue following the trail as it leads outside toward a monster cave and an open clearing.

Watch out: Be sure to collect the silver pendant next to Jean-Luc's body before slaying the monster, or you will lose it permanently and miss bonus dialogue choices.

  5. 5

    Slaying the Monster of Tufo

Step into the clearing and cave system beneath and adjoining the vineyard estate to confront the Monster of Tufo, a giant Shaelmaar responsible for the disturbances. Bring down the beast in combat, then loot its remains to claim the Shaelmaar Trophy, the relic silver sword Ami, and crafting components including Shaelmaar hair. Afterward, return to Jean-Christophe and Madame de Bourbeau to conclude the contract.
