The short version

What matters

  • •The Caretaker's Spade looted directly from the boss's body in the rear garden.
  • •The Ornate Silver Hairbrush found on the ground near the southeast gazebo before burying Iris.
  • •Iris' Sketchbook located on the studio desk, along with the relic armor and front door key upstairs.

Common mistakes

  • •Failing to pick up the Ornate Silver Hairbrush in the garden before conducting Iris's burial, locking you out of it permanently.
  • •Advancing through Iris's burial without looting her studio desk, which forfeits the Sketchbook as a grave offering option.

What you can skip

  • •Searching the estate for shops, blacksmiths, or vendors, as none exist here.

Walkthrough May be incomplete

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

  1. 1

    Arrival at the Estate

When you reach the front gate or broken perimeter wall of the Von Everec Estate in northeastern Redania, you will encounter a terrified thief fleeing the grounds. Proceed into the overgrown front courtyard and explore the surrounding garden grounds to take in the estate. Note that there are no merchants, craftsmen, or other service providers located anywhere in this area.

  2. 2

    Confronting The Caretaker

Follow the dragged blood tracks leading deeper into the grounds toward the back garden and graveyard behind the manor house. There, you must engage and defeat The Caretaker, who is guarding the estate. Once he falls, loot his remains in the rear garden to acquire The Caretaker's Spade alongside the key to the manor's back door.

Watch out: Remember to loot the Caretaker's corpse immediately to secure his unique spade before entering the residence.

  3. 3

Meeting the Familiars and Scouring the Grounds

Immediately after defeating the boss, you will meet the supernatural talking Black Cat and Black Dog on the grounds near the back porch; they will accompany you across the estate. Before entering the residence, head over to the southeast corner of the garden near the ruined gazebo. Activate your Witcher Senses to spot and grab the Ornate Silver Hairbrush lying directly on the ground.

Watch out: If you do not retrieve the Ornate Silver Hairbrush before holding the burial and placing a different memorial offering, it becomes permanently missable.

  4. 4

Exploring the Manor and Slaying the Wraith

Unlock the manor's back door and explore both the ground floor and the upstairs bedchamber and art studio, where you will battle the Wraith from the Painting in the hallways and bedrooms. In Iris's painting studio, inspect the desk to pick up Iris' Sketchbook, which serves as a possible grave offering. Search the master bedroom to gather the front door key, the Portrait of Iris and Olgierd from the bedside furniture, and the Ornate Robe and Ornate Boots from the wardrobe or chest.

Watch out: Be sure to collect the Sketchbook from Iris's desk before proceeding with her funeral arrangements if you wish to use it as her burial offering.

  5. 5

    Burying Iris von Everec

Collect Iris von Everec's remains from her bed and carry her down into the estate's garden to give her a proper burial. From this point forward, you leave the physical estate behind to explore her memories within the painted realm.

Choices here

What you decide here and what it leads to.

Iris's Grave Offering

When burying Iris von Everec in the estate's garden during "Scenes From a Marriage"

  • Place the Sketchbook→ Uses the sketchbook found from her bedroom studio as her memorial offering
  • Place the Ornate Silver Hairbrush→ Uses the silver brush picked up from near the garden gazebo as her memorial offering

Picking an offering progresses the ritual and permanently prevents using any alternative item you did not select.

The Violet Rose

During the conversation with Iris von Everec at the conclusion of the Painted World

  • Take the rose from Iris→ Geralt obtains the physical Violet Rose key item
  • Leave the rose with Iris→ Geralt obtains a painted portrait of Iris holding the rose instead of the physical flower

Leaving the rose behind permanently misses obtaining the physical Violet Rose item.
