The short version
What matters
- •Shoot Golyat in the eye with your crossbow at Dulcinea Windmill to earn the "David and Golyat" trophy/achievement.
- •Loot the Letter on elegant stationery and the Heavy brass key from the corpse at the riverbank Archespores site northeast of the Sansretour Valley signpost.
- •Collect the Manticore gear diagrams from the red chest inside the Abandoned Temple of the Prophet Lebioda.
Common mistakes
- •Finishing and turning in either "Wine Wars: Vermentino" or "Wine Wars: Coronata" before looting and reading the Letter on elegant stationery permanently misses the secret quest "Wine Wars: The Deus in the Machina".
- •Killing Golyat with standard melee attacks rather than an eye shot with the crossbow permanently locks you out of the "David and Golyat" achievement for that playthrough.
- •Moving forward with the main quest past Dulcinea Windmill without looting the nearby barn causes many players to overlook the Old Pamphlet.
What you can skip
- •Do not seek out merchants, vendors, or craft services directly at the Sansretour Valley signpost, as none are stationed there.

1
Slay Golyat at Dulcinea Windmill
When you arrive in Toussaint after escorting Palmerin and Milton into the Sansretour Valley basin, you will immediately encounter Dulcinea Windmill on the northeast edge of the valley. Golyat attacks here, and you can strike his exposed eye through the gap in his head barrel with a crossbow bolt to execute a one-shot kill opening. Once the giant falls, loot his corpse to claim the Golyat Trophy along with monster parts, florens, and gear.
Tip: Aim your crossbow directly through the wooden barrel's narrow opening to hit Golyat's exposed eye for an instant kill.
Watch out: The "David and Golyat" trophy/achievement is permanently missable if you kill Golyat with standard melee strikes instead of shooting his eye.

2
Inspect the Barn near Dulcinea and The Cockatrice Inn
Follow the valley roads past the riverbanks toward The Cockatrice Inn. Before focusing strictly on the riverbank investigation, step inside the barn located near the shoreline beneath the inn and Dulcinea Windmill. Search the containers and interior surfaces inside this building to collect the Old Pamphlet.
Tip: Search all interior containers thoroughly before continuing your pursuit of the Beast.
Watch out: You can easily miss grabbing the Old Pamphlet early if you follow the main questline past this building without entering it.
-
3
Search the Riverbank Shoreline for the Beast's Victim
Head down to the Sansretour River shoreline situated just below The Cockatrice Inn to inspect the area for scurvers and clues regarding the Beast's victim. Activate your Witcher Senses along the riverbanks to track the disturbance, then examine the submerged fishing net in the water. Interact with the underwater net to retrieve the Handkerchief Monogrammed "d.l.C." to advance your investigation.
Tip: Use your Witcher Senses along the water's edge to easily pinpoint the submerged net.
-
4
Play Gwent at The Cockatrice Inn
Head up to The Cockatrice Inn along the valley road. Speak with the innkeeper inside the tavern to challenge them to a match of cards.
Tip: Challenge regional innkeepers immediately to expand your card collection.
-
5
Search the Abandoned Temple of the Prophet Lebioda
Journey through the Sansretour Valley to locate the Abandoned Temple of the Prophet Lebioda. Head inside the temple structure and find the pair of steps. Beside these two steps, open the red chest to secure Diagram: Manticore trousers and Diagram: Manticore boots.
Tip: Look beside the two stone steps inside the temple to easily spot the red container.
-
6
Clear the Archespore Nest by the Riverbank
Travel northeast of the Sansretour Valley signpost along the riverbank to reach an Archespores guarded treasure site. Eliminate the hostile Archespores guarding the riverbank and search the human corpse lying at the site. Loot this body to obtain the Heavy brass key and the Letter on elegant stationery, and be sure to read the letter right away.
Tip: Keep this letter in your inventory and read it as soon as you loot it to prepare for upcoming wine disputes.
Watch out: If you finish and turn in either "Wine Wars: Vermentino" or "Wine Wars: Coronata" before looting and reading the Letter on elegant stationery, the secret quest "Wine Wars: The Deus in the Machina" will become permanently locked out.

7
Cleanse the Corvo Bianco Wine Cellar
Head south across the valley basin to the vineyard slopes of Corvo Bianco Vineyard, located southeast of the Sansretour Valley signpost. Descend into the wine cellar dungeon beneath the estate where you must defeat the Bruxa of Corvo Bianco. After putting down the vampire, harvest her remains to collect Bruxa hair, vampire saliva, and vampire mutagen, then speak with majordomo Barnabas-Basil Foulty up at the estate house.
Key fight: The Bruxa of Corvo BiancoTip: Prepare to dodge frequently in the confined cellar space while facing the Bruxa.
