Located east of Toderas within a cavern system, the ruined Temple of Lilvani serves as the final meeting ground between Geralt, Olgierd von Everec, and Gaunter O'Dimm in the quest "Whatsoever a Man Soweth...". Here, Master Mirror exploits the temple floor's moon mosaic to bypass Olgierd's contract loophole, forcing Geralt to make a timed decision either to stand aside or intervene to rescue Olgierd.

The short version

What matters

  • •The relic steel sword Iris, awarded by Olgierd von Everec on the terrace once you successfully solve Gaunter O'Dimm's riddle.
  • •The Viper Venomous Silver Sword, embedded in a stone near the red-glowing ruins within Gaunter O'Dimm's timed pocket realm.
  • •Hidden cave chests located inside the subterranean passages leading into the temple, containing valuables and crafting diagrams.
  • •Gaunter O'Dimm's unique pact rewards—such as the Caparison of Lament, Horn of Plenty, or Bottomless Carafe—granted if you choose not to save Olgierd.

Common mistakes

  • •Failing to speak with Professor Shakeslock beforehand, which permanently disables the option to challenge O'Dimm and rescue Olgierd.
  • •Forgetting to pull the Viper Venomous Silver Sword from the stone before completing O'Dimm's riddle, as the pocket realm cannot be returned to later.
  • •Choosing to challenge O'Dimm if you wanted the Caparison of Lament, Horn of Plenty, or Bottomless Carafe, since his reward choices are mutually exclusive with saving Olgierd.

Walkthrough

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

  1. 1

    Cavern Approach

When you enter the cave system situated east of Toderas in north-eastern Novigrad / Velen, explore the subterranean passages leading toward the temple. Search the side tunnels along the way to uncover chests containing crafting diagrams and valuable goods before reaching the exit.

Tip: Check every branching tunnel thoroughly for valuables before heading out to the cliffside.

  2. 2

    Meeting on the Cliffside Balcony

Emerge from the cavern onto the open cliffside terrace overlooking the surrounding landscape to meet Olgierd von Everec. Present your fulfilled third task to him right above the sanctuary floor where the crescent moon mosaic is laid out.

Tip: Take care of all preparatory needs beforehand, as this location contains no merchants, vendors, blacksmiths, or services.

Watch out: You will be permanently locked out of challenging Gaunter O'Dimm if you did not complete the optional objective to speak with Professor Shakeslock earlier.

  3. 3

    Gaunter O'Dimm's Confrontation

Watch as Gaunter O'Dimm descends from the sky onto the terrace, halts time, and reveals that the terrace floor fulfills his lunar requirement with Olgierd. You must choose whether to challenge Master Mirror to a contest of wits or let him claim Olgierd's soul.

  4. 4

    O'Dimm's Direct Rewards

If you decide not to intervene and allow Gaunter to claim Olgierd's soul, select your desired prize from O'Dimm on the terrace. Picking the dialogue option to be as swift as the wind grants the Caparison of Lament, while other requests yield items like the Horn of Plenty or the Bottomless Carafe.

Watch out: Siding with O'Dimm permanently locks you out of the relic steel sword Iris and prevents you from ever entering the pocket dimension to claim the Viper Venomous Silver Sword.

  5. 5

    Gaunter's Twisted Dimension

If you step in to challenge O'Dimm, he transports you into his twisted pocket realm to navigate a timed riddle instead of a monster duel. Along the alternative trails through this dimension, stay alert for lurking gargoyles and specters as you race toward the ruins.

  6. 6

    Claiming the Viper Silver Sword

While traversing the timed realm, locate the red-glowing ruins before reaching the final estate. Pull the Viper Venomous Silver Sword directly from the stone where it rests near the ruins.

Watch out: This sword is permanently lost if you complete the riddle or run out of time without pulling it from the stone, as this realm cannot be revisited.

  7. 7

    The Courtyard Riddle Solution

Head behind the ruined mansion into the courtyard to reach the dry fountain basin. Cast Aard against the cracked wall behind the fountain to release the water, forming a reflecting fountain pool that uncovers O'Dimm's reflection and ends the challenge.

Tip: Striking the wall with Aard instantly exposes O'Dimm once the pool fills with water.

Watch out: You must solve the puzzle before the time limit expires to prevent failure.

  8. 8

    Olgierd's Gift

Back outside the Temple of Lilvani following Gaunter O'Dimm's defeat, speak with Olgierd von Everec on the terrace. Grateful for his saved soul, Olgierd presents you with his relic steel sword, Iris.

Watch out: Iris drops no loot from a corpse and is permanently missed if you let O'Dimm take Olgierd's soul.

Fate of Olgierd von Everec

During the confrontation between Gaunter O'Dimm and Olgierd on the terrace in "Whatsoever a Man Soweth..."

  • Intervene to challenge Gaunter O'Dimm→ Geralt enters O'Dimm's pocket realm to solve a riddle; if successful, Olgierd survives and gifts Geralt the relic steel sword Iris, while O'Dimm's rewards are permanently lost
  • Let Gaunter O'Dimm take Olgierd's soul→ Olgierd dies, the sword Iris is permanently missed, and Geralt is allowed to claim a reward directly from O'Dimm

Most players pick: Intervene to challenge Gaunter O'Dimm

Intervening is permanently locked out if you did not complete the optional objective to speak with Professor Shakeslock earlier

Gaunter O'Dimm's Reward

After letting Gaunter O'Dimm take Olgierd's soul on the terrace

  • "Wanna be as swift as the wind"→ You receive the Caparison of Lament
  • Request other wishes→ You receive other items such as the Horn of Plenty or the Bottomless Carafe, permanently missing the Caparison of Lament

Both the Caparison of Lament and alternate rewards are mutually exclusive and completely unavailable if you chose to challenge O'Dimm
