← All areas in this guide

Located in the fortress basement, Wyrm's Rock Prison holds high-profile captives such as Counsellor Florrick facing execution. Infiltrators or arrested party members can break prisoners out, recover confiscated equipment, and search for the hidden entrance leading into the Wyrmway. Fast-traveling to waypoints and returning to camp are restricted while inside this area.

The short version

What matters

  • •Rescuing Counsellor Florrick to secure Florrick's Cohort for the final battle as part of Gather Your Allies.
  • •Activating the two dragon-head torches with lightning damage to unlock the secret western descent into the Wyrmway.
  • •Recovering confiscated party gear from the Equipment Chest and Evidence Chest if you entered the dungeon by being arrested.

Common mistakes

  • •Delaying Florrick's rescue after triggering her notice in the Lower City; taking 5 Long Rests causes her off-screen execution.
  • •Searching this dungeon for the Helldusk Boots or Flame Enamelled Armour, which are located on the upper levels of Wyrm's Rock Fortress, not down in the prison.
  • •Letting a character holding the Necromancy of Thay get arrested; confiscated inventory transfers can bug and permanently delete the quest-bound book.

What you can skip

  • •Attempting to rescue Otto Ott from the northeastern cell, as he flatly refuses to leave his comfortable cell and free meals.

Walkthrough

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

  1. 1

    Bypassing Breva Brightmoon

When you enter the fortress basement via the stairs, bypass the sleeping guard Breva Brightmoon at her desk by pickpocketing the Wyrm's Rock Prison Key or waking her to pass a DC 15 Persuasion or Intimidation check. If you were arrested and thrown into a cell instead, interact with the Unusual Skull on the shelf to answer its riddles and teleport past the bars, or simply pick the lock and reclaim your confiscated gear from the Evidence Chest and Equipment Chest along the central corridor.

Tip: You can eavesdrop on Breva while she sleeps with a DC 15 Perception check to learn about prisoner Otto Ott, giving you an easy dialogue advantage when waking her.

Watch out: Escaping your cell using the Unusual Skull inflicts the Fugitive condition for 20 turns, causing any guards who spot you to attack on sight.

  2. 2

    Dealing with the Guard Post

As you advance into the T-junction corridor, deal with Fist Ivarus on patrol and the three guards—Fist Saunder, Fist Creekrider, and Fist Jagic—resting in the open guard cell. You can pickpocket the Wyrm's Rock Prison Cell Key from Fist Ivarus to access every cell quietly, or eliminate the guards outright to clear your path.

Tip: Casting Minor Illusion or using turn-based mode allows you to pickpocket Fist Ivarus without alerting the three off-duty Fists seated in the adjacent open cell.

Watch out: Paladins of Devotion will break their sacred oath if they initiate unprovoked combat against the guards without catching them in hostile dialogue or criminal response.

  3. 3

Securing the Storage Room Escape Route

Head across the corridor into the eastern Storage Room to clear a concealed exit path out to the cliffside. Inspect the damaged back wall of the room and smash through its Medium Toughness stone with bludgeoning or force damage to open a direct route leading to the exterior fortress ledges.

Tip: Bludgeoning weapons or the Eldritch Blast cantrip make quick work of the crumbling wall without wasting consumable spell slots or items.

Watch out: Avoid breaking the storage room wall while Fist Ivarus is nearby, as the sound will draw him over to investigate and trigger a trespassing confrontation.

  4. 4

    Freeing Counsellor Florrick

Head to the northwestern cell and speak with Counsellor Florrick, who sits despondent over Duke Ravengard's condition and is resigned to her upcoming execution. Pass a DC 10 Persuasion or Intimidation check to rally her spirits, unlock her door using the Wyrm's Rock Prison Cell Key, and escort her to freedom using Invisibility or the opened breach in the Storage Room wall.

Tip: Casting Invisibility on Florrick allows her to simply walk straight out through the main fortress entrance without triggering any guard alerts.

Watch out: Florrick will be executed off-screen and lost permanently if you take 5 Long Rests after reading her execution notices or entering the Lower City without rescuing her.

  5. 5

    Unlocking the Wyrmway Passage

Walk to the dead-end western passage off the main hall, where two ornate Dragon Head Torches flank a solid stone wall. Strike both torches with any source of Lightning damage—such as Shocking Grasp, Witch Bolt, or an Arrow of Lightning—to turn their flames blue and transform the blank stone wall between them into an illusory doorway leading directly down into the Wyrmway.

Tip: You do not need Duke Ravengard's legend book or an active quest prompt to activate the torches; any lightning damage immediately dispels the wall.

Watch out: Do not waste time extinguishing or interacting with the torches first; simply target each dragon head directly with lightning attacks.

Choices here

What you decide here and what it leads to.

Rescuing Counsellor Florrick

When speaking to Florrick in her cell

  • Persuade/Intimidate her to fight on and break her out→ Completes *Free Counsellor Florrick*, Florrick lives, and she joins as an ally summon (Florrick's Cohort) for *Gather Your Allies* in the final battle
  • Abandon or fail to convince her→ Florrick remains in her cell and is permanently executed off-screen

Most players pick: Persuade/Intimidate her to fight on and break her out

Time-sensitive: Once her execution is announced upon entering the Lower City, you have 5 Long Rests before she is executed permanently.
