Defiled Temple
Located beneath the Shattered Sanctum, this former place of worship dedicated to Selûne doubles as Priestess Gut's personal quarters and holding cells. Adventurers enter to confront or evade Gut's ogre bodyguard and manipulate an ancient moon disc mechanism embedded in the floor. Aligning the puzzle discs or triggering a hidden wall mechanism opens a secret passageway down into the Selûnite Outpost of the Underdark.

Walkthrough
The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.
-
1
Infiltrate Priestess Gut's Chambers
Unlock the heavy door from Priestess Gut's private chapel to enter the Defiled Temple, or sneak inside via the Zhentarim storeroom crevice. As you step in, you find yourself on the upper threshold of Gut's living quarters while her ogre bodyguard, Polma, patrols the room below. Climb the wooden ladder at X: 396, Y: 28 to access the high wooden walkways if you want to bypass Polma entirely without drawing attention.
Tip: Use stealth or invisibility across the high beams to loot the room freely without triggering dialogue or combat.
Watch out: Entering carelessly on ground level triggers dialogue where failing an interrogation check causes Polma to attack.
-
2
Deal with the Prison Cell Scenario
If you drank Priestess Gut's sleeping potion in the chapel, you awaken chained inside the private cell while Gut prepares to brand or sacrifice you. Choosing to "Preserve your strength" summons Korrilla through a portal to assassinate Gut and Polma instantly, freeing you safely without raising camp alarms. If you instead pick your shackles or pass the Athletics/Strength checks to break free, you must fight Gut and Polma directly.
Tip: Preserving your strength avoids burning spell slots and keeps the surrounding goblin camp oblivious to Gut's death.
Watch out: Killing Gut while Polma watches enrages the ogre with Polma's Wrath (+4 Strength, -2 AC), making her melee attacks significantly deadlier.
-
3
Clear and Loot Gut's Bedroom
Defeat Polma in combat or use stealth while she turns her back to explore the bedchamber at the rear of the quarters. Check the bed at X: 391, Y: 3 to pick up the Padlock Key, and open the bedside wooden cabinet at X: 386, Y: 8 for the Selûnite Journal containing puzzle riddles. Next to the bed, pick or unlock the gilded chest at X: 386, Y: 8 to claim the Amulet of Misty Step.
Tip: Looting the bed and chests while Polma is alive requires staying completely out of her red sight cones in turn-based mode.
Watch out: Failing a theft or trespass check around Polma immediately drags your whole party into combat.
-
4
Follow the ruined eastern corridor out of Gut's chambers past the skeleton down
tip: Loot the skeleton in the hallway before interacting with the dials so you do not overlook its loot.
Tip: Loot the skeleton in the hallway before interacting with the dials so you do not overlook its special arrows.

5
Rotate the four floor dials until all four solid black new moon circles rest ins
tip: Solving the floor disc puzzle manually awards the Sage Inspiration "The Phases Unfold" for Gale or Sage characters.
Tip: Solving the floor disc puzzle manually awards the Sage Inspiration "The Phases Unfold" for Gale or Sage characters.
Watch out: Unlocking the secret door via the hidden wall lever bypasses the floor puzzle but skips the Sage Inspiration point unless you return to solve the dials later.
Choices here
What you decide here and what it leads to.
Escape from Gut's chains or wait
In Gut's private cell after being knocked out by her sleeping potion
- Break free (Acrobatics/Athletics check)→ Initiates combat alone and unarmored against Priestess Gut (and Polma if alerted), requiring you to kill Gut yourself
- "Preserve your strength" (or fail escape checks)→ Korrilla suddenly appears via portal, instantly assassinates Gut and Polma, frees you at no risk, and vanishes
Most players pick: "Preserve your strength"
If Polma witnesses Gut die during the fight option, she gains "Polma's Wrath" (+4 Strength, -2 AC).

Serves as Priestess Gut's personal ogre bodyguard; players can avoid fighting her through dialogue skill checks, stealth, or by having Korrilla eliminate her if the party is captured by Gut.
Tips
- Rather than guessing disk rotations, rotate the floor tiles so that every completely black moon circle ends up grouped together on the southernmost disc where the ray of light falls.
