Reithwin Town
Reithwin Town is a sprawling abandoned settlement in the Shadow-Cursed Lands corrupted by the shadow curse and dominated by remnants of the Thorm dynasty. Adventurers must navigate its ruined districts—including the House of Healing, Reithwin Tollhouse, The Waning Moon, and the Mason's Guild—while dealing with twisted bosses and unearthing the dark history of Ketheric Thorm's family. Players can eliminate these corrupted leaders through martial combat or persuade them into demise through conversation before heading onward toward Moonrise Towers.

The short version
What matters
- •Talking Gerringothe Thorm into self-destruction to skip a lethal boss battle, earn the Penny Pincher achievement, and loot her unique morningstar Twist of Fortune.
- •Passing the sentinel statue checks under the town square to earn temporary +5 ability score buffs before major Act 2 dungeon runs.
- •Sending Arabella to camp immediately so you can resolve her family questline and obtain the Arabella's Shadow Entangle spell.
- •Defeating Oliver's shadow summons in the central square to shatter his Nightdome and lift the regional Shadow Curse alongside Halsin.
Common mistakes
- •Carrying tens of thousands of party gold into the Gerringothe Thorm confrontation, allowing her Coin Whip to wipe out characters in a single hit.
- •Directly attacking Oliver's Nightdome in the town square instead of targeting his summons, triggering damage reflection back onto attackers (double necrotic damage on Tactician/Honour mode) instead of relying on shadow kills to destroy it.
- •Pushing past the western road gate toward Baldur's Gate, which triggers an inescapable cutscene capture that sends the party straight into Moonrise prison.
Walkthrough
The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

1
Secure the Eastern Outskirts & Graveyard Gate
As you cross into the ruins near the Reithwin Town Waypoint (X: -78, Y: -46), activate a Moonlantern or the Pixie Blessing so the deeper shadow curse does not drain your party. Follow the road northwest toward the graveyard gate (X: -153, Y: 15) to find Arabella struggling with shadow-magic, and send her to your camp to start "Find Arabella's Parents". Before heading into the square, check the nearby cemetery sarcophagi (X: -158, Y: 73) for scrolls and the Icebite Robe.
Tip: Split your party and send a high-Sleight-of-Hand character to loot the graveyard sarcophagi while under invisibility to avoid drawing lingering undead.
Watch out: If you enter the Shadowfell and resolve the Nightsong before speaking to Arabella here, she disappears from the act and locks you out of Arabella's Shadow Entangle.

tip: Radiant Spirit Guardians makes quick work of the ambushing Shadows and keeps the central square illuminated throughout the fight.

Watch out: Pressing the statue plaques out of sequence resets the mechanism, requiring you to start the order from the northern plaque again.

3
Plunder the Subterranean Sharran Sanctuary
Descend the revealed staircase beneath the town square to enter the forgotten Sharran Sanctuary. Interact with the Charismatic, Wise, and Intelligent Sentinels, passing a DC 14 ability check for each to secure a massive +5 blessing to that respective attribute. Head into the rear altar chamber where you can offer blood or claim the Ritual Dagger of Shar, defeating the three Sharran Sentinels that animate to defend it.
Tip: Assign your highest-stat companions to interact with their matching sentinel statues (such as your Bard for Charisma or Cleric for Wisdom) to guarantee success.
Watch out: The +5 ability score blessings last only until your next Long Rest and can only be acquired once per playthrough; claiming them immediately before resting permanently wastes them.

Confront Gerringothe Thorm at the Reithwin Tollhouse
Move southeast to the Reithwin Tollhouse and climb to the upper trading floor to confront Gerringothe Thorm and her floating Visages. You can talk her into self-destruction by giving her one gold piece, asking who oversees her, and passing consecutive DC 18 and DC 21 Persuasion or Deception checks to claim the Twist of Fortune morningstar without combat. If a brawl breaks out instead, destroy the floating Visage skulls across the room to strip her heavy gold armor and shatter her health pool before she strikes.
Tip: Sending all of your party's camp gold to your camp chest before entering dialogue or combat prevents Gerringothe's Coin Whip from dealing lethal one-shot damage.
Watch out: Gerringothe's weapon Twist of Fortune and her gold hoard can vanish down broken floorboards if she is pushed into the tollhouse chasms, preventing you from looting her.

Watch out: The safe on the tollhouse second floor carries a brutal DC 30 Sleight of Hand check unless you pass a DC 18 Perception check on the nearby wall to read the written combination.

Key fight: Oliver's Final Stand (Reithwin Town Square)Tip: Use crowd-control spells like Turn Undead and Wall of Fire across the town square chokepoints to wipe Oliver's summons swiftly without taking direct attacks.
Watch out: Wasting high-level spell slots directly targeting Oliver's Nightdome dome is entirely useless, as it takes zero direct damage from weapon or spell strikes.

Clear the Grand Mausoleum Approach & Crypt Paintings
Travel north past the cemetery to the Grand Mausoleum Waypoint (X: -173, Y: 80), speaking with Raphael on the porch to update Astarion's companion quest before stepping inside. Evade the floor and gargoyle traps within Isobel's crypt, then inspect the three historical wall murals around her sarcophagus. Press the buttons below the paintings in the chronological sequence indicated by the journal—Moonrise Towers, Grief, and General—to open the secret stone wall leading to the traversal platform.
Tip: Disarming the crypt floor traps using Astarion before interacting with the wall buttons prevents accidental chain explosions from knocking you into gargoyle fire.
Watch out: Pressing the crypt wall buttons out of order triggers a localized burst of darkness and spawns shadow enemies while resetting the mural sequence.

Repel Vlaakith's Hunters on the Road to Baldur's Gate
Cross the stone arch bridge leading west past the Waning Moon toward the Road to Baldur's Gate Waypoint (X: -263, Y: -37). If you defied Queen Vlaakith inside the Crèche in Act 1, Ch'r'ai Tska'an ambushes your group here with a cadre of Githyanki warriors; slay them to loot the Psionic Ward Armour and Hr'a'cknir Bracers. Once the battle ends, keep your party clear of the western highway edge and do not walk deeper down the road toward Baldur's Gate.
Tip: Cast Counterspell against the Githyanki raiding party's initial misty-stepping mages to stop them from dropping Hold Person on your frontline warriors.
Watch out: Walking too far west down the main road past the waypoint triggers a cutscene where the Absolute's army captures the party and throws you into the Moonrise Towers Prison.
Choices here
What you decide here and what it leads to.
Arabella's Search
Speaking with Arabella near the graveyard entrance
- Agree to search for her parents and invite her to camp→ She stays safely in camp with Withers, unlocking the resolution to her parents' fate in the House of Healing and rewarding the *Shadow Blade Ring* later
- Refuse or tell her to leave→ Arabella wanders off alone into the shadow curse, locking out her storyline, rewards, and Act 3 appearances
Most players pick: Agree to search for her parents and invite her to camp
Missable if not spoken to before resolving the area's main events.
Gerringothe Thorm's Toll
Entering dialogue on the upper floor of the Reithwin Tollhouse
- Toss a gold coin, then pass high Charisma dialogue checks (Deception/Persuasion/Intimidation)→ Convinces her to relinquish her duty, causing her and the visages to instantly implode without combat, dropping all loot including the *Twist of Fortune* morningstar
- Refuse or fail checks→ Triggers a difficult boss battle against her armored form and floating visages (she can instantly down players carrying large amounts of gold)
Most players pick: Toss a coin and pass the Charisma dialogue checks
Twist of Fortune's *Blood Money* scales damage with target inventory gold; send high gold reserves to camp before fighting her directly.
Reconciling Oliver
Defeating the shadow summons around Oliver's Nightdome in the town square
- Speak gently or convince him to reunite with Thaniel→ Oliver returns to your camp to rejoin Thaniel, progressing the quest to fully lift the shadow curse and permanently recruiting Halsin as an active companion
- Attack Oliver directly inside/after the Nightdome→ Oliver remains permanently hostile or disappears, softlocking or failing the "Lift the Shadow Curse" questline and losing Halsin as an ally
Most players pick: Convince him to reunite with Thaniel
Attacking the Nightdome directly reflects double damage back at attackers; only eliminate summoned shadows to safely break it.
Raphael's Bargain Outside the Mausoleum
Approaching Raphael outside the Grand Mausoleum entrance
- Accept Raphael's contract to kill his orthon enemy (Yurgir) inside the Gauntlet of Shar→ Progresses Astarion's companion quest (*The Pale Elf*) to decipher the infernal runes on his back in Act 2, gaining major approval from Astarion
- Refuse or enter without Astarion→ Forfeits Raphael's deal on the spot; forces Astarion to wait until Act 3 to decipher his scars, risking severe companion disapproval and relationship strain
Most players pick: Accept Raphael's contract with Astarion in party
Essential checkpoint for Astarion's romance and personal quest progression.

Key fights
Enemies: Malus Thorm, four Sister nurses (Sister Anya, Sister Vanessa, Sister Hunna, Sister Geanne), and a Distressed Patient strapped to an operating chair
Threats: Malus uses Request Surgical Instrument to receive brutal specialty implements from the nurses for deadly multi-attacks and piercing/slashing strikes; nurses cast healing, buffs, and hold person spells
Weaknesses and resistances: Malus and the nurses are undead; resistant to non-magical weapon damage, necrotic damage, and immune to poison; vulnerable to radiant damage and prone to turn undead
Tactics: Use the elevated wooden walkways/stairs flanking the operating theater for high-ground ranged attacks and spell casting, or use door choke-points to cast area-of-effect spells like Spirit Guardians, Fireball, or Wall of Fire while eliminating the nurses first to deny Malus his instrument buffs (alternatively, win instantly via Charisma dialogue checks to convince the nurses to operate on each othe
Rewards: Surgeon's Subjugation Amulet, Battered Lute (needed to awaken Art Cullagh), assorted surgical tools, and heavy XP
Enemies: Thisobald Thorm and four undead tavern patrons (Blighted Actor, Blighted Barman, Blighted Patron, Blighted Troubador)
Threats: Thisobald drinks his potent concoctions to gain elemental damage coats and breath attacks (Acid, Fire, or Poison Burps) while inflicting Numbed and Nauseous debuffs; the patrons rush to swarm the party
Weaknesses and resistances: Immense physical durability while shielded by his brew; immune to poison; takes double damage and loses all resistances while under the Blacked Out condition after over-drinking
Tactics: Position ranged attackers and spellcasters along the high-ground gallery/scaffolding running above the bar floor while using a frontline tank or summons at the bottom choke-point near the counter to bait out his drinks until he staggers into the Blacked Out state, then burst him down with high-damage melee attacks (alternatively, bypass combat entirely via successive DC Constitution and Sleight of
Rewards: Madeline's Ledger (hidden behind loose planks for "Punish the Wicked"), Punch-Drunk Bastard greatclub, Rat Bat, brewing ingredients, and heavy XP
Enemies: Oliver protected inside his Nightdome, Mummy, Daddy, a shadowy owlbear (Shadow Plush), and recurring waves of five Shadow Friends
Threats: Oliver's Nightdome has Damage Reflex (reflects double incoming direct damage back at the attacker) and repeatedly casts Friends Until The End to flood the area with shadows; Daddy and Mummy possess Extinguishing Malice, necrotic drains, and invisibility
Weaknesses and resistances: Mummy and Daddy are wraiths resistant to non-magical physical, acid, thunder, fire, lightning, and cold damage, immune to poison and necrotic, but have Sunlight Sensitivity and vulnerability to radiant damage; Shadow Friends possess only 1 HP
Tactics: Set up on the cobblestone square or elevated stone ledges around the town center statue; do not attack Oliver's Nightdome directly, but instead cast radiant AoE spells like Spirit Guardians, Daylight, or Daylight-enchanted weapons along with Arrow of Many Targets to eliminate Mummy, Daddy, and the 1 HP Shadow Friends (each kill damages the dome by proxy until it shatters)
Rewards: Unlocks the reunion of Oliver and Thaniel to successfully complete the "Lift the Shadow Curse" questline and fully recruit Halsin
Enemies
A corrupted toll collector whose defenses crumble as her floating visages are shattered or who can be convinced to destroy herself via dialogue.
Shops and people
- Sister Lidwin: Various potions, elixirs, and deadly coatings such as Purple Worm Toxin and Karabasan's Poison
Tips
- Boss encounters with members of the Thorm family can be entirely avoided or instantly won by passing dialogue checks rather than engaging them in direct combat.
