Inside the Deku Tree

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time guide · First dungeon to obtain the Kokiri's Emerald

Link enters the Great Deku Tree to break the curse placed upon him by Ganondorf. Inside, you must burn spiderwebs, hit switches, and descend into the lower basement to reach the boss chamber. Defeating the boss cleanses the curse and rewards Link with the Kokiri's Emerald.

Gohma Larva

Weak to Deku Stick, sword strikes, or Slingshot pellets

Hatches from egg sacs hanging from ceilings.

Big Skulltula

Weak to sword strike to its exposed soft bellySteal / drop Deku Stick

Turns around periodically to reveal its vulnerable underside.

Skullwalltula

Weak to Fairy Slingshot

Clings to vines and will knock Link down if touched.

Deku Scrub

Weak to reflecting its Deku Nut projectile with a shieldSteal / drop Deku Nuts or Recovery Hearts

Must be chased down and talked to after deflecting its attack.

Queen Gohma

Weak to Fairy Slingshot or Deku Nut when her eye turns red, followed by sword slashesSteal / drop Heart Container

The boss of the dungeon who climbs to the ceiling to drop larvae.

Tips

Jump from the top floor straight into the center of the giant web on the ground floor to break through to the basement.
Light a Deku Stick at a torch and run to unlit torches or web-blocked doorways to set them on fire.
Defeat the trio of Deku Scrubs before the boss door in the specific order of 2, 3, 1 to gain access.
