Vault 87
Vault 87 is the dangerous research vault where the Capital Wasteland's Super Mutants originated, entered via Little Lamplight through Murder Pass or the reactor door. The player must navigate through hostile mutants, pass lethal radiation sectors, and recover the Garden of Eden Creation Kit (G.E.C.K.) from within the containment wing. Upon securing the G.E.C.K. and attempting to leave, the player is ambushed and captured by the Enclave.

Tips
- Do not enter Vault 87 via the main exterior door, as the radiation level there exceeds thousands of rads per second and will cause instant death.
- You can hack the maintenance terminal near the isolation chambers to release fire containment protocol, which opens Fawkes' isolation cell.
- If you choose to rescue Fawkes, he will offer to step into the heavily irradiated containment room to fetch the G.E.C.K. for you, saving you extreme radiation exposure and RadAway supplies.
- If retrieving the G.E.C.K. yourself, equip an Advanced Radiation Suit or use an abundance of Rad-X and RadAway, as the chamber reaches lethal levels of radiation very quickly.
- Once you pick up the G.E.C.K. or have Fawkes bring it to you, prepare for the mission to abruptly shift, as returning through the exit triggers a scripted stun grenade trap by the Enclave.
