The Lone Wanderer enters Vault 112 to find James trapped inside a virtual reality reality-pod system run by an overseer named Dr. Stanislaus Braun. You must step into a memory lounger to enter the 1950s suburban simulation "Tranquility Lane" and confront Braun, who appears as the little girl Betty. To escape with your father, you can either indulge Betty's cruel requests to torment the residents or activate the simulation's failsafe terminal in an abandoned house.

Tips
- Stripping your character of equipment happens automatically upon sitting in the memory lounger; all your original gear is safely returned when you exit the simulation.
- Choosing the failsafe terminal route gives positive Karma, while following Betty's torturous requests (like breaking up marriages or killing residents with a mask and knife) awards heavy negative Karma.
- Once you talk to your father (who is trapped in the body of a dog named Doc) after ending the simulation, he immediately heads toward Rivet City.
