DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED guide · Accessed via the gate near Andre or the back of the forest

Darkroot Garden is an expansive, twilight-lit forest connecting Undead Parish to Darkroot Basin, divided into an open lower woodland and a sealed grove behind a glowing crest door. Players navigate winding stone paths through hostile plant life and sleeping giants to confront the Moonlight Butterfly or enter the sealed hunter grounds leading toward Great Grey Wolf Sif. Progressing through the area provides key upgrade embers, access to forest PvP, and the ring required to walk the Abyss.

An illusionary wall hides a bonfire to the left of the glowing door sealed by the Crest of Artorias; strike the blank stone wall to reveal it.A living tree behind the initial path to the Moonlight Butterfly can be attacked and destroyed to reveal a hidden side path containing the Wolf Ring.

Floats out of melee range firing magic projectiles until it periodically lands on the bridge railing to rest.

Great Grey Wolf Sif

Weak to Fire, Bleed

Wields a colossal greatsword in its mouth; best fought by staying directly under or behind its back legs.

Forest Hunter Spirits

Weak to Physical backstabs, Parries

Hostile NPC phantoms guarding the forest path; defeating them yields substantial souls.

Tips

If you lack strong ranged damage for the Moonlight Butterfly, summon the NPC Witch Beatrice from beneath the staircase hidden by bushes leading up to the fog gate.
The human hunter spirits past the sealed crest door can be lured toward the cliffside near the entrance stairs to easily trick them into falling to their deaths.
Equipping the Rusted Iron Ring is not necessary for the garden itself, but it significantly helps if you choose to drop down into the adjacent Darkroot Basin waters.
