Darkroot Basin

DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED guide · Accessed via the valley below the Undead Parish

Darkroot Basin is a deep, shadowy ravine located beneath Darkroot Garden and connected to the Undead Burg watchtower. Players navigate narrow mountain ledges to reach a large lake guarded by a massive Hydra, which must be defeated to access further secrets. The area also houses a hidden bonfire, a shortcut path toward Havel the Rock, and the starting point for the Artorias of the Abyss DLC content.

Black Knight (Halberd)

Weak to Parrying, backstabs, and Lightning

Guards the path to the Grass Crest Shield and bonfire; does not respawn once killed.

Hydra

Weak to Physical attacks to exposed necks

Fires lethal water blasts at a distance but bites the ground with its heads when approached in the shallows.

Tips

Equip the Rusted Iron Ring before fighting in the lake to retain full movement speed through the deep water.
Watch your footing in the lake water, as there is an abrupt underwater drop-off that will cause instant death if you step over the ledge.
Raise a high-stability shield right at the edge of the water to safely block the Hydra's physical lunges, then quickly strike the heads while they are stuck in the dirt.
