The Great Hollow

DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED guide · An optional area accessed via a hidden wall in Blighttown.

The Great Hollow is a vertical, tree-spanning optional area accessed through two illusory walls at the base of Blighttown. Players must navigate down winding, narrow wooden branches and mushroom platforms while evading petrification to reach Ash Lake at the bottom.

The entrance to The Great Hollow is hidden behind two successive illusory walls behind a chest in the swamp of Blighttown.

Enemies

Basilisk

Weak to Fire

Emits breath clouds that cause rapid Curse buildup, which instantly kills the player.

Giant Mushroom

Weak to BleedSteal / drop Gold Pine Resin

Hits extremely hard with slow physical punches; best fought at a distance or baited into missing.

Small Mushroom

Weak to Fire

Mostly passive and flees, but will attack if provoked; dealt with easily.

Tips

Equipping Cursebite Ring or stocking up on Purging Stones is highly advised due to the Basilisk infestation near the middle and lower branches.
If you do not possess the Lordvessel, descending to the bottom means you must climb back up the branches manually to leave.
Roll carefully or walk slowly on the roots, as the collision detection can cause sudden slips to fatal falls.
