DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED guide · The sewer area beneath the Undead Burg

The Depths is a dark, flooded sewer network located beneath the Lower Undead Burg that players access after defeating the Capra Demon. To progress, you must navigate labyrinthine tunnels, avoid deadly basilisks and falling slimes, and find the shortcut back to the bonfire before descending to fight the Gaping Dragon. Defeating the Gaping Dragon awards the Blighttown Key, opening the massive doors to the next area.

Falling down the chute behind the first Butcher's meat counter lands you safely on a high ledge directly above the Giant Rat's room, granting early high-ground advantage and the Spider Shield.

Basilisk

Emits large clouds of curse gas that cause instant death and half max health if the status gauge fills.

Slime

Drops from ceilings to ambush players and possesses extremely high resistance to physical damage.

Channeler

Weak to Physical

Buffs surrounding enemies with a dance and fires Soul Arrows; does not respawn once killed.

Gaping Dragon

Weak to LightningSteal / drop Dragon King Greataxe (tail cut)

Massive boss that deals heavy physical charge damage and vomits corrosive acid.

Laurentius of the Great Swamp: Pyromancy Flame and basic pyromancy spells after being freed from the barrels where he is trapped
Domhnall of Zena: Sells Gold Pine Resin, Crystal weapons, Boss Armor, and lore advice

Tips

Kill the Channeler located on the upper floor before fighting the Gaping Dragon, or he will continuously shoot magic and buff the boss from above during the fight.
Bring Purging Stones into this area to quickly cure Curse if you are exposed to Basilisk gas.
