Pokémon Emerald guide · First gym challenge

Rustboro City is a major metropolis that serves as the location of the player's first Gym challenge against Roxanne. Players must also interact with the Devon Corporation and recover stolen Devon Goods from Team Aqua to proceed. After earning the badge, the player unlocks the ability to use Cut in the overworld.

Starting with Treecko or Mudkip makes Roxanne's Rock-type team simple, but Torchic users should evolve it into Combusken to learn Double Kick or catch a Marill, Lotad, or Wingull.
