Petalburg Woods is a dense forest connecting Route 104's southern and northern sections. Players must navigate through the trees, defeat wild Pokémon and Bug Catchers, and rescue a Devon Corporation researcher from a Team Aqua Grunt. Clearing this area is required to continue northward toward Rustboro City.

This is the first area where you can encounter Slakoth and Shroomish in the wild, though Slakoth has a low encounter rate.
Poison-inflicting Pokémon like Wurmple appear frequently here, so carry Antidotes or use the local Pecha Berries to cure poisoning.
