Phantom Train
Following their escape through the Phantom Forest, Sabin, Cyan, and optionally Shadow mistakenly climb aboard a supernatural locomotive tasked with hauling deceased souls to the afterlife. Because the entry doors seal behind them, the companions must battle westward through the passenger cars and disconnect pursuing coaches to reach the locomotive engine. Once the party operates the steam pressure switches at the front, they must defeat the runaway train in direct combat to halt its journey and return to the living world.

Tips
- Because the Phantom Train boss is classified as an undead creature, using a Phoenix Down directly on it causes an instant knockout.
- Equipping the Earring found in the dining car onto Sabin significantly amplifies the damage of his magic-based Blitz techniques, such as Aura Cannon.
- Speaking to the peaceful ghost in the caboose allows it to join your party as a fourth member, providing an extra target for attacks and access to the one-time instant-kill skill Possess.
- Sabin can perform his Meteor Strike Blitz on the entire locomotive during the boss encounter to slam the train upside-down.
