Resident Evil 4 guide · Escaping the village ambush

At the start of Chapter 2, Leon awakens without his equipment in an Abandoned Factory and must stealthily retrieve his gear. After recovering his items, he must fight through Ganados, locate a small hexagon-shaped key, and unlock the gate leading toward the Village Chief's Manor.

Kitchen Knife: From your cell in the Abandoned Factory basement where you wake up chained to Luis in Chapter 2, walk down the corridor into the open room and look at the vertical wooden support beam near the workbench.How: Approach the wooden post and pick up the knife embedded in it.Missable because: missable because you cannot return to this lower section of the Abandoned Factory once you progress through the valley and cross the lake later in the chapter.Small Key: From the Merchant's station right outside the Abandoned Factory, re-enter the facility's northern control room past the furnace room and check the brown filing desk against the south wall.How: Open the small briefcase/drawer resting on top of the desk to take the key.Missable because: missable because progressing past the point of no return at the end of Chapter 4 locks off the Village area entirely.

Blue Medallions: Shoot 5 blue medallions scattered in and around the Abandoned Factory and Valley to complete a Merchant request posted nearby.Castellan figurine: Inside the small side shack in the Valley area just past the factory, resting on top of some boxes in the corner.

Enemies

Ganado

Weak to Head

Patrols the factory rooms and can be stealthily eliminated with a knife prior to retrieving firearms.

Dynamite Ganado

Weak to Head

Throws sticks of dynamite; shooting their throwing arm causes the explosive to drop and detonate among surrounding enemies.

Shops and people

The Merchant: Weapon tuning, buying/selling gear, trading Spindels, and offering a typewriter to save progress right outside the factory exit.

Tips

Crouch and utilize quiet knife takedowns from behind until you recover your weapons to avoid alerting multiple Ganados simultaneously.
Parrying enemy attacks with the combat knife consumes durability, so conserve it by running or dodging when possible in early encounters.
