Resident Evil 4 guide · Rescuing Ashley

Leon arrives at the Church in Chapter 4 using the Church Insignia to unlock the front gates and search for Ashley Graham. Inside, he must solve a stained glass light puzzle using dials to access the upper floor where Ashley is imprisoned. Once rescued, Leon and Ashley must escape together back outside into the graveyard.

Key fights

Church Exterior Ambush

Enemies: 8–10 Ganados (including pitchfork, scythe, and dynamite wielders), followed by 1 Crossbow Ganado

Threats: Ranged dynamite throws, thrown scythes, high-damage lunges, explosive self-damage/friendly fire, and grapple attempts threatening Ashley's safety

Weaknesses and resistances: Dynamite sticks exposed in enemy hands ignite when shot; standard ganados are vulnerable to headshots, kicks, flash grenades, and shotgun spread

Tactics: Command Ashley to "Hide" in the nearby metal dumpster before engaging; bottleneck the charging Ganados near the church gate or church steps; detonate the dynamite-wielding Ganado's active explosive while he is clustered with others; use the Shotgun to clear close breaches before retrieving Ashley

Rewards: Pesetas, random ammo drops, and safe passage back through the Church grounds to the Pueblo

Tips

In the stained-glass puzzle, align the center symbol with the Los Iluminados cult crest before rotating the other colored glass sections into place.
Order Ashley to stay close or hide in lockers whenever hostile enemies appear outside the Church.
