Fallout: New Vegas guide · Starting the game
← All areas in this guide

Goodsprings is the starting settlement where the Courier awakens in Doc Mitchell's house after surviving an execution attempt. Players can learn survival basics from Sunny Smiles, explore the town buildings, and resolve a brewing conflict between the locals and the escaped convict gang known as the Powder Gangers. Choosing to protect the town or aid the Powder Gangers establishes the Courier's early faction reputation and concludes the introductory section.

Shops and people

  • Chet (Goodsprings General Store): General supplies, ammunition, weapons, weapon modifications, and leather armor
  • Trudy (Prospector Saloon): Basic food, drink, and minor medical items

Tips

  • Talk to Sunny Smiles at the Prospector Saloon right after leaving Doc Mitchell's to receive a Varmint Rifle and free target practice.
  • Fix the broken radio inside the Prospector Saloon with a high enough Repair skill to gain early experience and town favor.
  • Avoid traveling directly north from Goodsprings past the cemetery early on, as high-level Cazadores and Deathclaws block the path.
  • During the quest "Ghost Town Gunfight," you can ask townspeople like Chet, Doc Mitchell, and Easy Pete for supplies using speech and skill checks to strengthen the town's militia.
