The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom guide · First descent into the chasm

Link first descends into the pitch-black underworld known as the Depths through a chasm on the surface, usually as part of Robbie and Josha's early questline from Lookout Landing. The goal here is to navigate through total darkness by finding ways to light the area, locate Robbie, and unlock the Camera ability. Players must avoid the dangerous Gloom covering the terrain, which restricts maximum hearts until a Lightroot or the surface is reached.

Weak to Headshots with arrows

Attacks deplete hearts with Gloom, preventing them from being healed by standard food.

Robbie: Offers to upgrade the Purah Pad with the Camera feature once located near the first Lightroot

Tips

Throw Brightbloom Seeds by hand instead of attaching them to arrows to conserve your arrow supply in the dark.
Walking over Gloom will crack your heart containers; stand directly under an activated Lightroot to restore them.
