FINAL FANTASY IX guide · The path to Madain Sari

The Conde Petie Mountain Path is traversed by Zidane's party after leaving Conde Petie to reach Madain Sari on the Mist Continent's neighboring Outer Continent. Along the path, the party meets the young summoner Eiko Carol, who joins the team and helps navigate the giant roots. Players must navigate winding root pathways, deal with wandering Oglops, and defeat the boss Hilgigars guarding the path's exit.

Weak to Ice magic and can cast Fire attacks.

Tips

Equip the Float spell or Earth-negating/absorbing equipment prior to challenging Hilgigars to completely nullify his lethal Earthquake counterattack.
Hilgigars carries the Fairy Flute, a powerful early-game instrument for Eiko, but its steal rate is notoriously low; be prepared for a long battle if attempting to steal it.
