Leyndell, Royal Capital is a sprawling golden metropolis serving as the seat of the Erdtree and the ruling demigods. Navigating the city requires descending from the outer ramparts through devastated avenues, climbing the petrified wing of the dragon Gransax, and scaling Erdtree roots to reach the royal sanctuary and the throne. Defeating the shardbearer Morgott at the foot of the Erdtree is mandatory to progress the main story and unlock the path toward the Mountaintops of the Giants.

Entering the Capital Ramparts

Arrive at Leyndell via the northern Capital Outskirts after felling the Draconic Tree Sentinel, or pass through the Deeproot Depths waygate. Once inside the entrance, rest at the Capital Rampart Site of Grace. Ride the elevator into the outer rim to activate the East Capital Rampart Site of Grace, where Melina will briefly bid you farewell and Boc the Seamster can offer tailoring services.

Descending the Residential Quarters

Push past the envoy-guarded ramparts and drop into the lower residential quarters to rest at the Lower Capital Church Site of Grace. Scour the streets for an open well leading down into the Subterranean-Shunning Grounds and Leyndell Catacombs.

Tip: Dropping down the well ladder grants early access to the subterranean sewers.

Watch out: Leyndell will eventually be buried in ash if you defeat Maliketh, locking out the surface well entrance and the Black Bow.

The Main Avenue and Dragon Wing

Advance onto the central roadway and rest at the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace. Traverse the rooftops down to the petrified corpse of the colossal dragon Gransax. Ascend along its massive stone wing to bypass the destroyed ramparts and reach the West Capital Rampart Site of Grace.

Infiltrating the Fortified Manor

From the southwestern branch near the West Capital Rampart, enter the Fortified Manor—an architectural recreation of Roundtable Hold—and light the Fortified Manor, First Floor Site of Grace. Grab the Two Fingers' Prayerbook from the study room hearth and the Seedbed Curse from the corpse tied to a chair in the room mirroring the Dung Eater's chamber.

Watch out: Defeating Maliketh transforms Leyndell into the Capital of Ash and permanently buries the Fortified Manor, locking out all of its loot including the Sanctified Whetblade, Coded Sword, and prayerbook.

Scaling the Erdtree Sanctuary

Climb the massive Erdtree root near the West Capital Rampart to access the Erdtree Sanctuary. Confront and defeat the golden shade of Godfrey, First Elden Lord, then rest at the newly unlocked Erdtree Sanctuary Site of Grace. Walk outside onto the Erdtree Sanctuary or Avenue Balcony drops to jump onto the colossal spear shaft wielded by the petrified dragon monument and retrieve the Bolt of Gransax from its tip. Take the elevator down from the sanctuary to find the Radagon statue, and cast Law of Regression over the message "Regression alone reveals secrets" to uncover the secret text "Radagon is Marika".

The Elden Throne and Morgott

Climb the upper root balcony leading out of the Erdtree Sanctuary to discover the Queen's Bedchamber Site of Grace. Step forward to the Elden Throne to trigger the confrontation against Morgott, the Omen King. Felling him reveals the Elden Throne Site of Grace and exposes the sealed entryway barring the Erdtree.

Tips

Complete all item pickups and NPC quest interactions inside the Fortified Manor and lower streets before defeating Maliketh in Crumbling Farum Azula, as doing so permanently converts the capital into Leyndell, Ashen Capital and buries most of the city under ash.
Margit's Shackle, purchased from Patches earlier in the game, works twice during the first phase of the Morgott boss fight to bind him to the ground for free damage windows.
