Castle Ensis is a fortified stronghold spanning the chasm between Gravesite Plain and Scadu Altus. Players must push across fortified bridges, navigate inner barracks, and defeat Glintstone sorcerers and Carian knights to open the main highway north. The fortress culminates in a confrontation with Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, in the castle's highest sanctuary.

  1. 1

    Crossing the Great Bridge

    When you arrive at Castle Ensis by crossing the great bridge northeast of Gravesite Plain, drop off the northern cliffside path down toward the ravines from the Castle Front Site of Grace to reach a sealed storeroom under the castle bridge foundation for the Spelldrake Talisman +3. Then, return to the entrance path where you must confront a Carian Troll Knight defending the outer gateway approach.

    Tip: Defeating the Carian Troll Knight awards the Carian Knight's Shield or smithing materials.

    Watch out: Do not miss the drop down to the ravines under the bridge before committing to the main fortress gate.

    Lower Courtyards

    Advance past the entrance gatehouse into the lower courtyards defended by Messmer soldiers and dogs.

    Tip: Take out the dogs first to avoid being overwhelmed by Messmer soldiers.

    Approaching the Checkpoint

    Proceed forward across a fortified interior bridge guarded by a Carian Troll Knight.

    Castle Ensis Checkpoint and Inner Courtyard

    Rest at the Castle Ensis Checkpoint Site of Grace and Miquella's Cross, grabbing the Scadutree Fragment resting on the ground right next to them. Move into the courtyard stairs just before the chapel to face the hostile elite NPC Moonrithyll, Carian Knight, who drops the Moonrithyll's Knight Sword upon defeat.

    Tip: Prepare for Moonrithyll's heavy sword attacks on the narrow courtyard stairs.

  5. 5

    Castle-Lord's Chamber and Ensis Moongazing Grounds

    Climb to the Castle-Lord's Chamber Site of Grace, where you can summon Needle Knight Leda via her gold summon sign situated directly in front of the fog gate. Pass through into the Ensis Moongazing Grounds to face Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, in the Remembrance boss arena. Defeat Rellana, then exit through the rear courtyard to emerge onto Scadu Altus.

    Key fight: Rellana, Twin Moon Knight

    Tip: Summon Needle Knight Leda at the fog gate to assist with Rellana's aggressive melee combos.

  6. 6

    The Belfry Waygate

    Once outside in Scadu Altus on the cliff plateau southwest of Highroad Cross directly behind the castle walls, locate the belfry gargoyle statue. Insert the Imbued Sword Key into the gargoyle statue to unlock a waygate that teleports you to an isolated overlook in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, which holds the Verdigris Discus.

Tips
  • The Twin Moons spell cast by Rellana hits three consecutive times with expanding shockwaves; timing your jumps instead of rolling is the most reliable way to avoid taking massive magic damage.
