ELDEN RING guide · The northern sub-region of Caelid ✓ Checked against sources
← All areas in this guide

Dragonbarrow is the perilous, high-level northern plateau of Caelid, separated from southern Caelid by a deep ravine and home to numerous dragons and beast-men. Players visit this zone to access the Beast Sanctuary, retrieve legendary talismans, and take down powerful high-rune bosses like Greyoll and the Black Blade Kindred. Navigating the cliffs safely requires caution, as enemies deal significantly more damage and have much higher health pools than those in southern Caelid.

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

  1. 1

Western Cliffs and the Isolated Merchant

When you enter from southern Caelid by crossing the Smoldering Wall border or riding the Spiritspring north of Church of the Plague, make your way to the far western cliffs. Visit the Isolated Merchant's Shack along the western cliffside road to find the Isolated Merchant (Dragonbarrow). If you explore the western reaches further, you can enter the Abandoned Cave to battle a duo of Cleanrot Knights, and be sure to grab the Map: Dragonbarrow from the stone stele on the path directly east of the Dragonbarrow West site of grace.

Tip: Visit the shack during the day to browse wares safely before facing nighttime threats.

Watch out: Visiting the Isolated Merchant's Shack at night spawns the dangerous Bell Bearing Hunter.

  2. 2

    The Divine Tower of Caelid

Head to the northwest coastal expanse where the colossal Divine Tower of Caelid stands. Delve into the basement to challenge the Godskin Apostle, then loot the chest behind the boss room for the Godslayer's Greatsword.

    Key fight: Godskin Apostle

Tip: Rest at the basement Site of Grace before taking on the boss.

  3. 3

    Central Ridge and Fort Faroth

Travel along the central ridge to reach Fort Faroth and rest at the Fort Faroth Site of Grace. Climb the eastern ladder up to the tower to open a treasure chest holding the Dectus Medallion (Right).

Tip: Prepare for tight platforming when dropping into the roof openings.

  4. 4

    Secret Caves and Cliffside Caverns

Explore the northern and northeastern cliffs to uncover the region's hidden dungeons and evergaols. Additionally, drop off the northern cliffs into Dragonbarrow Cave to defeat two Beastmen of Farum Azula.

Tip: Attack suspect gravestone walls northeast of Church of the Plague to reveal the hidden cave.

Watch out: You will miss Lusat's Glintstone Armor Set if you do not finish Sorceress Sellen's questline and side with Sellen.

  5. 5

Farum Greatbridge and the Bestial Sanctum

Confront the Black Blade Kindred guarding the entrance before stepping inside to rest at the Bestial Sanctum Site of Grace.

    Key fight: Flying Dragon Greyll

Tip: The Sending Gate in East Limgrave lets you reach the sanctum early without traversing Caelid.

Shops and people

  • Isolated Merchant (Dragonbarrow): Sells Dragonwound Grease, Spiked Caestus, Serpent Arrows, and Beast-Repellent Torch

Tips

  • Buy the Beast-Repellent Torch from the Isolated Merchant in Dragonbarrow; holding it prevents the giant dogs and crows from attacking you unless provoked.
  • You can defeat the massive Elder Dragon Greyoll safely without drawing aggro by attacking her back legs or tail using a Bleed weapon like the Reduvia or Uchigatana.
  • Vulgar Militiamen outside the Bestial Sanctum drop over 1,000 runes each and can be easily staggered, making the stretch outside the sanctum a potent early-game rune farming run.
