The Rift
The Rift is an autumnal hold in southeastern Skyrim dominated by birch forests, rocky outcrops, and the capital city of Riften. During the main quest, the Dragonborn travels here to locate the missing Blade Esbern, who is hiding deep within the Ratway beneath Riften. Along the roads, you will navigate hostile wildlife, bandit ambushes, and local farms before entering Riften's corrupt and faction-divided streets.

Tips
- When approaching Riften's north gate, the guard attempts to extort a visitor's tax, which can be easily avoided through Persuasion, Intimidation, or asking what kind of shakedown this is.
- Equipping a carriage from any major city stable directly to Riften skips the long wilderness trek and places you right outside the city gates.
