Mzulft
Mzulft is a vast Dwemer ruin investigated during the College of Winterhold quest "Revealing the Unseen". Players must navigate through automations and Falmer to locate the Synod expedition and the lost Oculory. Once at the device, you must focus light beams using heat and cold spells to reveal the location of the Staff of Magnus.

Key fights
Enemies: Falmer Gloomlurker (or highest-tier Falmer caster variant), Chaurus Reaper, and an inactive Dwarven Centurion in a central gantry
Threats: Falmer casts high-tier Frost and Shock spells alongside deadly weapon poisons; Centurion activates upon entry to unleash Steam Breath (continuous physical/fire damage) and massive melee swings
Weaknesses and resistances: Falmer are susceptible to Fire damage and sneak attacks; Centurion resists Frost (100%), Poison (100%), Magic (25%), and is vulnerable to Shock damage
Tactics: Lure the Falmer and Chaurus back into the ramped entry corridor to eliminate them before engaging the Centurion; kite the Centurion around the central metal structures using ranged attacks or Shock magic while avoiding its close-range steam
Rewards: Focusing Crystal (essential quest item on the Falmer), Centurion Dynamo Core, Grand Soul Gem, leveled Falmer and Dwemer loot
Enemies
Blind subterranean enemies that rely on sound; common throughout the middle sections.
Poisonous insectoid beasts often accompanying the Falmer.
Small automaton encountered in swarms, attacks with jumps or lightning.
Patrol automaton that rapidly rolls into combat and switches between blades and crossbows.
Massive boss-level construct encountered just before reaching the Oculory chamber.
Tips
- Bring Frost and Fire spells to calibrate the Oculory, though spell tomes for Flames and Frostbite are provided on a console table in the room if you lack them.
- Striking the Oculory's lens apparatus with Frost spells contracts the rings, while Fire spells expand them.
- Dwarven scrap metal found here can be smelted into Dwarven Metal Ingots, making Mzulft one of the best locations for gathering Smithing materials.
