FINAL FANTASY VIII guide · Optional quest to find Bahamut and Eden

The Deep Sea Research Center is an optional offshore facility located in the southwest corner of the world map, accessible via the Ragnarok. Players can challenge the Guardian Force Bahamut here by answering a series of riddles and defeating formidable monsters. Descending into the lower ruins using a steam pressure mechanism leads to the Deep Sea Deposit, where the superboss Ultima Weapon and the GF Eden await.

Re-entering the facility after defeating Bahamut reveals an open hole leading down to the Ocean Deposit; having Zell in the party allows him to punch open a malfunctioning steam valve, saving the player's remaining steam units for encounters below.Drawing Eden from Ultima Weapon allows players to acquire the final Guardian Force in the game, though it can also alternatively be drawn from Tiamat in the final dungeon.

Fought during the Bahamut quiz trial and in the lower ruins, capable of using devastating attacks like Breath and Meteor.

Bahamut

Steal / drop Hyper Wrist

Boss fought at the top of the facility; casts Mega Flare, which deals heavy non-elemental damage to the entire party.

Ultima Weapon

Steal / drop Three Stars

Superboss found at the bottom of the Ocean Deposit; possesses the GF Eden for drawing and attacks with Light Pillar, which deals 9,999 damage to a single character.

Tips

Avoid moving while the blue light is glowing during the Bahamut dialogue sequence, as doing so triggers random encounters with strong enemies.
Equip the "Enc-None" ability from Diablos while descending through the Ocean Deposit to prevent high-tier random encounters on the stairs.
When answering Bahamut's third question, select the invisible bottom option below the visible choices to initiate the boss battle.
