Resident Evil 2 guide · The central hub and cable car area

The Middle Sewers hub centers around the Monitor Room and the adjacent Cable Car Platform, acting as the main checkpoint where you solve the chess plug puzzle to open the door to the Garbage Room. To progress the story and reach the NEST laboratory, you must retrieve missing chess pieces from the lower and upper sewer waterways and place them in the correct wall sockets. Once the puzzle is solved and the power is restored, you can activate the cable car to depart the area.

Tips

Check the notice board near the chess plug sockets in the Monitor Room; the riddle notes posted there specify where each chess piece must be slotted to unlock the main door.
Do not pull all the pre-installed chess plugs out of the wall until you are ready to organize them, as they will clutter your inventory space while exploring the waterways.
