The short version

What matters

  • •Ledger upgrades for Dutch's tent to boost camp contributions and Arthur's tent to access camp fast travel.
  • •Donating $250 into the box next to Dutch's tent for the "Give to the Poor" achievement.
  • •Grabbing unique weapons like the Schofield Revolver in Valentine and the sidearm drops from Granger.

Common mistakes

  • •Bringing pursued law or bounty hunters near camp limits, which immediately fails the session and triggers a reload.
  • •Antagonizing gang members around camp until someone knocks Arthur cold and tosses him outside the boundaries.
  • •Leaving unique gunslinger sidearms on the ground after duels, permanently losing them once you ride away.

What you can skip

  • •Worrying about Kieran's interrogation method during "Paying a Social Call", as both choices produce the same result.

Walkthrough

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

  1. 1

    Settle the Wooded Plateau

When you transition here via "Eastward Bound" from Colter, explore your central lean-to bed, the communal center campfire, and Dutch's large white tent. Check the supply wagons on the perimeter, then inspect the book beside Hosea's bed or grab Dutch's Speech Notes from the crate or table behind his tent.

Tip: Donate at least $250 cumulatively into the camp donation box beside Dutch's tent to work toward the "Give to the Poor" achievement.

Watch out: Missable items like Hosea's Crime Novel and Dutch's Speech Notes will be lost once the gang abandons this campsite at the end of the chapter.

  2. 2

    Upgrade Camp and Gather Supplies

Head to Pearson's chuck wagon and butchering station at the edge of camp to manage provisions and trigger his request for a rabbit carcass between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM while he drinks beer. Use the ledger station beside Dutch's tent to upgrade Dutch's tent for increased gang donations and Arthur's tent to secure a fast travel map. Be sure to engage Mary-Beth while she writes at camp to pick up her request before completing the chapter.

Tip: Complete companion requests and camp activities during this chapter to progress the "Errand Boy" and "Friends with Benefits" achievements.

Watch out: Do not antagonize your companions repeatedly, or John, Charles, or Bill will knock Arthur out and dump him outside the perimeter.

  3. 3

    Interrogate Kieran and Visit Valentine

Walk over to the prisoner tree near the camp perimeter during "Paying a Social Call" to interrogate Kieran Duffy by either threatening him directly or letting Dutch and Bill intimidate him with hot tongs. Ride into town for "Polite Society, Valentine Style," intervene with Tilly's harasser, and check on Karen inside hotel room 2B on the second floor. While exploring town, grab the Schofield Revolver from the desk case in the Valentine Doctor's Office back room.

Tip: Kieran breaks and reveals the Six Point Cabin location regardless of which interrogation choice you select.

Watch out: Never lead pursuing lawmen or bounty hunters back to camp, as bringing hostiles to the perimeter forces an encounter failure and a reload.

  4. 4

    Frontier Errands and Homestead Heists

Ride south toward the Dakota River, pick up Javier Escuella's homestead robbery at Chez Porter, and search under the desk inside the burnt sheriff's office in Limpany for a lockbox containing a gold bar. Head east of Flatneck Station to claim Granger's Revolver beside his corpse.

Watch out: Guns dropped by unique gunslingers like Flaco, Granger, and Midnight must be picked up immediately from the ground beside their bodies or they become permanently missable.

  5. 5

    Escape the Heartlands

Complete your remaining gang endeavors across the region—including "Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego," "Americans at Rest," "Money Lending and Other Sins I & II," "Pouring Forth Oil," and "A Fisher of Men." Return to Valentine for "The Sheep and the Goats" where Cornwall's armed mercenaries and local lawmen corner you in an escalating town gunfight. Once you break the siege, undertake "A Strange Kindness" to help the gang abandon Horseshoe Overlook and relocate south toward Clemens Point.

    Key fight: Shootout in Valentine

Tip: Keep your distance and use town cover during the street retreat against Cornwall's mercenaries and lawmen.

Watch out: Triggering the final chapter missions forces the gang to pack up, permanently cutting off Horseshoe Overlook camp-specific interactions.
