The short version

What matters

  • •Collecting approximately $20,000 from the Blackwater heist stash inside Micah's cabin at Mount Hagen.
  • •Looting Micah's Revolver from his frozen corpse at the Mount Hagen summit campsite after the story concludes.
  • •Using John and Abigail's bedroom for saving, sleeping, and fast travel map services.

Common mistakes

  • •Rushing the early missions without sitting at the evening campfire, permanently losing the missable homestead conversations before Charles and Sadie leave.
  • •Saving and reloading the game after meeting Tilly in Saint Denis before reading her letter on the dining table, which permanently deletes the document.
  • •Starting the final assault mission "American Venom" before handing in the Eagle feathers requested by Charles at the barn.

What you can skip

  • •Searching for merchants, gunsmiths, or town traders, since Beecher's Hope functions solely as a personal homestead.

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.

  1. 1

    Claiming Beecher's Hope

When you arrive at the derelict Beecher's Hope land in West Elizabeth alongside Uncle and Charles Smith, confront and eliminate the squatters occupying the ruined shack on the property. Search their bodies for standard randomized pocket loot before clearing out their camp to prepare the grounds.

Tip: Keep in mind that Beecher's Hope lacks any vendors, shops, traders, merchants, or blacksmiths, functioning strictly as a homestead and safehouse.

  2. 2

Building the Homestead and Nighttime Camps

Transport timber to erect the pre-cut ranch house, barn, sheep pen, and outbuildings, while Charles Smith labors across the building sites or rests near the barn and campfire. In the evenings, sit down and rest by the outdoor homestead campfire to trigger special conversations before story events advance. You can also pick up an item request for Eagle feathers from Charles at the barn during this construction period.

Watch out: Rushing consecutive story missions will permanently remove Charles and Sadie from camp, causing you to permanently miss these campfire dialogues.

  3. 3

The Family's Return and Settling In

Once the house is complete, Abigail, Jack, and the family dog Rufus arrive to settle across the farmyard, porch, and interior rooms. Enter John and Abigail's bedroom inside the main house to access your primary sleeping bed and the wall-mounted fast travel map, or rest at a wilderness campfire pitched outside the property boundaries. Step onto the front porch, crouch, and reach under the porch steps to retrieve John's Secret Beer Crate, then browse the living room bookshelves to discover Arthur Morgan Literary References.

Tip: Inspect the dining room table after meeting Tilly Jackson in Saint Denis to read the Letter from Tilly, but do not save and reload beforehand or it permanently disappears.

  4. 4

Ranch Chores and the Display Hunt

Undertake daily homestead chores across the property by milking cows, cleaning out manure, carrying water, and loading the supply wagon parked near the main farmyard to sell goods like eggs and milk for cash. Manage your horses outside near the barn and hitching posts at the horse station, but watch for predatory wolves and coyotes that ambush you along the dirt entrance road and front gate. After placing Mrs. Hobbs's reward Squirrel Statue on the living room fireplace mantelpiece, begin the "It's Art" hunt by finding the statue hidden inside John and Abigail's bedroom chest, then their bedroom chimney, and finally Uncle's attic chest.

Tip: The wolf and coyote predator pack respawns regularly along the front entrance gate, so stay alert whenever riding into the ranch.

  5. 5

The Skinner Ambush and the Summit of Mount Hagen

Rescue Uncle from a Skinner Brothers ambush camp in the woods, then launch the final assault riding out to Mount Hagen in the Grizzlies. Battle through Micah's mountain fortress alongside your allies to confront Joe and take down Micah Bell on the freezing summit. Once the final sequence concludes, you will unlock approximately $20,000 from the Blackwater bank heist stash inside Micah's cabin, and you can loot Micah's Revolver directly from his frozen body at the summit campsite before returning home for John and Abigail's ranch wedding.

Tip: Return to the summit of Mount Hagen after the epilogue to claim Micah's unique revolver from his corpse.

Watch out: Starting the final ride to Mount Hagen permanently locks you out of Charles's Eagle feather item request.
