Chapter 6: Beaver Hollow
The Van der Linde gang makes camp at Beaver Hollow in Roanoke Ridge as Dutch slips deeper into paranoia and Micah gains influence over him. Arthur's worsening tuberculosis forces him to confront his mortality, leading him to aid John Marston's family, the Wapiti reservation, and local strangers before the gang inevitably collapses. Players must navigate Arthur's final story missions, resolving his redemption arc either by helping John escape or returning for the gang's hidden money.

The short version
What matters
- •The letter from Penelope Braithwaite resting on the bedside table, required to launch The Course of True Love IV.
- •The rear cavern escape passage, which provides an exit route during the Pinkerton raid on the hideout.
Common mistakes
- •Finishing Chapter 6 before resting at camp to read Penelope's letter from the bedside table; the camp is permanently abandoned when the chapter ends.
What you can skip
- •Searching Beaver Hollow for the letter from Mary Linton, as that correspondence strand originated at Horseshoe Overlook rather than this camp.

The area in the order you play it. Tick things off as you go: they tick off in the checklists below too.
-
1
Settle at Beaver Hollow
When you reach the Roanoke Ridge camp after the Lakay gathering and clearing out the Murfree Brood, explore the exterior cavern mouth and interior limestone cave system. You will find Dutch van der Linde, Micah Bell, Sadie Adler, John Marston, and Susan Grimshaw throughout the site. Outside near the cave entrance, Simon Pearson runs his cooking and crafting wagon, while Reverend Swanson sits near the tree line and lower path.
Tip: Save your progress and rest using Arthur's bedroll set up near or inside the cavern.
-
2
Scout the Cavern Interior
Head inside the main cavern room toward the southern rock wall to spot Dutch's gang savings lockbox positioned right by a wagon without wheels.
-
3
Undertake Regional Operations
Leave camp to execute major operations across the surrounding territories, including springing John Marston from Sisika Penitentiary. You will also confront Leviticus Cornwall over in Annesburg and stage an ambush against a dynamite convoy traveling through Van Horn.
-
4
Collect Penelope's Letter
Look at the small table resting directly beside his personal cot to pick up Penelope Braithwaite's letter, allowing you to start The Course of True Love IV.
Watch out: If you finish Chapter 6 without reading this letter, Beaver Hollow is abandoned and the document is permanently lost.
-
5
Execute the Final Heist and Ambush
Coordinate the gang's climactic train robbery before returning to camp for the final collapse during the mission Red Dead Redemption. When the Pinkertons launch their raid on the hideout, fall back through the rear cave escape tunnel as Arthur mounts his desperate last stand.
