Cloud, Barret, and Tifa infiltrate the Shinra Electric Power Company headquarters in Midgar to rescue the captive Aerith Gainsborough. They must scale the floors of the tower either by sneaking up the emergency stairs or fighting through the front entrance, navigate through corporate and laboratory floors, and retrieve keycards to ascend. Tips

  • If you choose to sneak up the emergency stairs instead of taking the lobby elevator, you avoid all random battles, but the climb takes several minutes of continuous running.
  • Equipping the Steal Materia on Floor 67 or 68 to steal the Hardedge from a SOLDIER:3rd grants Cloud a huge attack boost this early in the game.
  • Cloud fights Rufus alone, so ensure he has healing magic and a Restore Materia equipped before going out to the roof.
  • Long-range Materia or ranged weapons must be equipped on characters fighting Hundred Gunner, as melee attacks without Long Range cannot connect.
