FINAL FANTASY VII guide · Defending the Huge Materia

Shinra forces arrive to seize the Huge Materia inside the reactor, requiring Cloud and his party to repel the attack. You must either win the tower defense minigame or defeat the commander in direct combat when the enemies reach the top. Successfully defending the reactor causes the condor to perish, revealing its newly hatched chick and the prizes left behind.

Tips

You can intentionally let the enemy units reach the top to fight CMD. Grand Horn directly, saving gil on troop placement while earning the Imperial Guard armor.
Equipping Steal during the battle against CMD. Grand Horn is not needed, as the commander carries nothing to steal.
