Dark Ruins
The Dark Ruins is an ancient island citadel shrouded in impenetrable darkness until dispelled by placing the Sun Mirror on the outdoor plinth. Inside, the party must navigate winding corridors, operate switches to lower and raise staircases, and solve a light-focusing statue puzzle to reach the sanctum. At the deepest chamber, the group finally confronts Dhoulmagus across two consecutive boss encounters to break the curse on Trodain.

Key fights
Enemies: Dhoulmagus and two Dhoulmagus Clones
Threats: Opens with mirror image split into three targets, uses Wind Sickles, Throw Debris, Thousand Whips, Thin Air, Multiheal, Lullab-Eye, and Disruptive Wave
Weaknesses and resistances: Vulnerable to single-target burst once identified; clones share similar basic attacks but possess much lower maximum HP
Tactics: Eliminate the two mirror clones immediately to reduce incoming damage per round, avoid over-investing turns in tension because Disruptive Wave strips all buffs, and rely on Angelo or the Hero for routine healing
Rewards: 4,300 EXP, 0 Gold
Enemies: Dhoulmagus (Transformed)
Threats: Acts twice every round, unleashes devastating multi-target spells Kasizzle and Kacrackle, combo claw strikes, Inferno, War Cry to stun allies, and Disruptive Wave to cancel team enhancements
Weaknesses and resistances: High resilience against status ailments; no severe elemental weaknesses
Tactics: Keep team health consistently topped off to survive back-to-back group spells, maintain moderate single-turn tension rather than psyching to maximum, assign Angelo or Hero as dedicated group healers, and use Jessica and Yangus for armor reduction and heavy burst skills
Rewards: 12,000 EXP, 0 Gold
Enemies
Zombie family foe encountered throughout the ruin corridors
High agility undead warrior wielding bladed attacks
Skeletal equestrian caster encountered in the lower floors
Dangerous spellcasting creature native to the subterranean depths
Brute enemy dealing heavy physical damage
Spell-wielding undead encounter
Tips
- Because both forms of Dhoulmagus repeatedly cast Disruptive Wave to erase all accumulated stat buffs and Tension, focus on executing quick low-tension attacks and direct offensive abilities rather than wasting multiple turns charging up.
