Fishing and Bug Catching
Persona 4 Golden guide · Guide to obtaining the fishing rod and catching rare fish
← All areas in this guide
Bug catching and fishing allow you to gather bait and catch fish required for the Fox Hermit Social Link, item exchanges, and the Master Angler achievement. You can fish at the Samegawa Riverbank once you obtain the Fishing Rod, and later at Shichiri Beach once you acquire the River Rod and Deep-Wayfarer rod upgrade. Rainy days drastically change water conditions and make rare fish, including the River Guardian and Sea Guardian, appear more frequently.

Worth doing
- Catch bugs at the Tatsuhime Shrine trees once per day during the daytime or evening, with bug yield affected by your timing on the swing prompt.
- Fish at the Samegawa Riverbank or Shichiri Beach to spend an afternoon catching fish for requests, trading with the Shiroku Pub lady, or completing the Fox's requests.

Shops and people
- Bug Catching Boy at Tatsuhime Shrine: Trades caught bugs for hints or gives clues on what bait appears in different weather
- Shiroku Pub at night: Trades fish for valuable weapons, armor, and gems
Tips
- Rain and snow create rippling, splashing water circles at the fishing spots, which is the visual indicator that a Guardian is on the line.
- If the water ripple effect does not appear when the float hits the water, pull your line back in immediately to save your bait and try again until the Guardian ripple effect triggers.
- Reading the fishing books "Expert Fishing" and "Catching Bugs" increases the number of fish caught per session and improves the bug catching mini-game.
