Citadel (Citadel under attack)

Mass Effect 1 (Legendary Edition) guide · After Virmire
← All areas in this guide

Shepard and the Normandy crew assault the Citadel after Saren uses the Conduit to bypass security, bringing Sovereign into the heart of the station. You must fight through geth and krogan forces along the exterior of the Citadel Tower to reach the Council Chambers. Once inside, you confront Saren, disable the docking clamps, and determine the fate of the Council and the Destiny Ascension.

Standard mid-tier infantry encountered along the tower exterior.

Geth Rocket Trooper

Fires high-damage explosive rounds from range along the exterior walkways.

Geth Destroyer

Aggressive heavily shielded units that charge your position with shotguns.

Geth Prime
Weak to Warp, Sabotage

High-tier heavy unit armed with heavy weapons and deploying combat drones.

Krogan Battlemaster

Extremely durable vanguard equipped with shields, shotgun, and health regeneration.

Geth Armature

Quadruped combat walkers dropped onto exterior platforms.

Geth Colossus
Weak to Heavy heavy weapons, Tech abilities

Massive siege walker defending the outer trench of the Citadel Tower.

Geth Dropship
Weak to Heavy heavy weapons

Hovering transport that drops reinforcements; vulnerable to heavy concentrated fire while stationary.

Saren Arterius
Weak to Warp, Lift, Overload

Fought atop his hovering glider inside the Council Chambers; uses rockets and biotics.

Sovereign-controlled Saren
Weak to Overload, Warp, heavy automatic fire

Mutated biomechanical husk that moves rapidly, clings to walls, and fires rapid-fire energy bolts.

Tips

  • Equipping Tungsten or Shredder rounds (depending on whether you are fighting Geth synthetics or Krogan organics) dramatically speeds up fights along the exterior.
  • When fighting the mutated Saren, keep your squad spaced out to avoid mass knockdowns from his wall-pounce leap attack.
  • Biotic abilities like Lift or Singularity can temporarily hold Saren and heavy Geth units in place, disrupting their powerful shield regeneration.
  • You can use Charm or Intimidate dialogue options during the final confrontation with Saren in the Council Chambers to convince him to commit suicide, entirely skipping his first combat phase.
