Points of no return

  • Collecting the Shelter Stone, Lotus of the Palace, and Mortal Blade: The first Shinobi invasion triggers in Ashina Castle, permanently removing the standard layout and multiple early-game minibosses in the castle.
  • Rooftop confrontation dialogue choice with Owl: Choosing "Obey the Iron Code, forsake Kuro" locks the playthrough exclusively into the Shura ending, immediately terminating the run and cutting off access to Fountainhead Palace, Owl (Father), Demon of Hatred, and Lapis Lazuli upgrades.
  • Defeating the Divine Dragon in Fountainhead Palace: Triggers the final full-scale Interior Ministry invasion of Ashina, permanently locking out the questline dialogue required to obtain the Father's Bell Charm for Hirata Estate (Father's Memory) and locking out the Return ending steps if not completed prior.

Recommended order

  1. Step 1Dilapidated Temple

    Meet the Sculptor and Emma, equip your Prosthetic Arm, and unlock the initial skill tree and upgrade systems.

    • Ultimate Healing Gourd: Collect all nine Gourd Seeds throughout Ashina and have Emma fully upgrade your gourd.
    • Peak Physical Strength: Collect all 40 Prayer Beads, which requires accessing optional memory and late-game zones, and forge them into 10 necklaces.

  2. Step 2Ashina Outskirts

    Defeat General Naomori Kawarada, Chained Ogre, and General Tenzen Yamauchi to collect early Prayer Beads and Gourd Seeds.

  3. Step 3Hirata Estate

    Use the bell from the old woman in Ashina Outskirts, acquire essential prosthetic tools (Flame Vent, Shinobi Axe, Mist Raven), defeat Shinobi Hunter Enshin and Juzou the Drunkard, and defeat Lady Butterfly for a Memory.

  4. Step 4Ashina Outskirts

    Defeat Gyoubu Oniwa, obtain the Mechanical Barrel from Gyoubu's arena, and speak to the Tengu of Ashina across the battlefield to acquire the Ashina Esoteric Text.

  5. Step 5Ashina Castle

    Defeat the Blazing Bull, clear the castle steps miniboss, rescue Kuro in the Upper Tower, and defeat Genichiro Ashina atop the castle.

  6. Step 6Abandoned Dungeon

    Explore the waterways to reach the Bottomless Hole, acquire optional items, and talk to Doujun.

  7. Step 7Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo

    Acquire the Mortal Blade from the Divine Child after defeating the Folding Screen Monkeys, and obtain the Senpou Esoteric Text and Holy Chapter books.

  8. Step 8Sunken Valley

    Traverse the Gun Fort, defeat Snake Eyes Shirafuji and Long-arm Centipede Giraffe, eliminate the Guardian Ape, and retrieve the Lotus of the Palace.

  9. Step 9Ashina Depths

    Defeat Snake Eyes Shirahagi in the Poison Pool, eliminate the Headless Ape duo in the cave, navigate the Mist Noble's village, defeat Corrupted Monk (Illusion), and retrieve the Shelter Stone.

  10. Step 10Ashina Castle (Shinobi Invasion)

    Return to the rooftop to confront Great Shinobi Owl. Choose to remain loyal to Kuro (break the Iron Code). Defeat Great Shinobi Owl. Eavesdrop on Kuro and Emma to acquire the Father's Bell Charm before proceeding past Divine Dragon.

  11. Step 11Hirata Estate (Father's Memory)

    Use the Father's Bell Charm at the Sculptor's Buddha to access the memory. Defeat Lone Shadow Masanaga, Juzou the Drunkard (Rematch), and Owl (Father) to obtain the Aromatic Flower and Prayer Beads.

  12. Step 12Fountainhead Palace

    Travel to the divine realm, defeat the true Corrupted Monk and Sakura Bull of the Palace, collect all available Lapis Lazuli materials, finish the Great Carp questline, and defeat the Divine Dragon.

  13. Step 13Ashina Castle (Interior Ministry Invasion)

    Navigate the burning castle, defeat Ashina Elite - Ujinari Mizuo, and clear invading ministry forces.

  14. Step 14Ashina Outskirts (Interior Ministry Invasion)

    Return along the altered outskirts pathways to reach the battlefield and defeat the Demon of Hatred for additional Lapis Lazuli and a Memory.

  15. Step 15Ashina Reservoir (Interior Ministry Invasion)

    Defeat Seven Achina Spears - Shume Masaji Oniwa, traverse the secret passage, defeat Genichiro, Way of Tomoe and Sword Saint Isshin Ashina, and back up your save to trigger Immortal Severance, Purification, and Return endings.
