FINAL FANTASY XV WINDOWS EDITION guide · Chapter 15
← All areas in this guide

The Menace Dungeons, also known as the Menace Beneath Lucis, are a series of eight endgame sealed-door dungeons unlocked in Chapter 15 after clearing specific base dungeons. Noctis and his party descend through linear, numbered subterranean chambers fighting increasingly difficult waves of enemies to reach final bosses and obtain elite equipment. Access is granted by speaking to the elderly hunter Ezma at Meldacio Hunter HQ after completing the main story and the pre-requisite base dungeons.

Enemies

Tonberry
Weak to Daggers, Light

Frequently counters melee attacks with a lethal knife stab; best handled by parrying or attacking from range.

Master Tonberry
Weak to Daggers, Light

Fast and aggressive variant that uses energy slashes and rapid knife thrusts; relies heavily on quick-time event parries to defeat safely.

Mindflayer
Weak to Daggers, Light

Casts confusion and grab attacks that drain maximum HP; prioritize eliminating them first in multi-enemy rooms.

Jormungand
Weak to Swords, Daggers, Ice

Large serpent that inflicts fire damage across wide areas; vulnerable to freeze magic and blindside strikes.

Bilrost
Weak to Swords, Daggers, Ice

Stronger recolor of Jormungand found deep in Costlemark's vault, capable of burning the entire arena.

Shops and people

  • Ezma: Bestows the quest line "A Menace Beneath Lucis" and gives Noctis the Sealbreaker's Key once the prerequisite dungeons are cleared.

Tips

  • The Menace Sleeps in Costlemark completely restricts the use of items, making heal-focused equipment, Ignis's Regroup technique, and food buffs like the Golden Tail Soup essential for survival.
  • Many encounters involve clusters of Iron Giants or Tonberries, so crafting high-potency "Limit Break" magic (using ingredients like Adamantite or Zu Beaks) allows you to wipe out difficult rooms in a single cast.
  • Camp rooms within the Menace Dungeons act as safe zones where you can rest, change food buffs, and create an autosave checkpoint before descending further.
