Talking to Takamura to start Eastern Kyoto (The Clash at Rendaino): Free-roam access across Kyoto, open-world side quests, and prior map areas for the duration of the finale until completing the story or reloading.

Recommended order

Step 1

Complete the prologue, then explore Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Eastern Kyoto while learning parry counters and unlocking early Oni Vision abilities.
Step 2

Progress through story missions including Kiyomizu-dera Temple (The Curse of Kiyomizu-zaka Slope), Eastern Kyoto (Windswept Kennin-ji), and Nijo-jo Castle into the Underground Laboratory while rescuing local citizens.
Step 3

Advance through Kyoto Imperial Palace, Eastern Kyoto (Bloodbath on the Bridge), Eastern Kyoto (A Tempest at the Temple), and Eastern Kyoto (Okuni's Kabuki Dance), picking up unlocking side quests and Oni Armaments.
Step 4

Venture through Mount Oe, Eastern Kyoto (A Haunted Distraction), Eastern Kyoto (Storm Chaser), and Arashiyama while gathering collectibles and upgrading gear.
Step 5

Stop before triggering Eastern Kyoto (The Clash at Rendaino) to mop up all 18 Chance Encounters, 8 Mysteries of Kyoto, 36 Lion Dogs, Genma Notes, and full equipment upgrades across all regions.
Step 6

Initiate Eastern Kyoto (The Clash at Rendaino), breach Shanaoh Castle, defeat the final boss, and complete your initial run.
Step 7

Reload pre-final free roam via continue if needed, or start New Game+ on Carnage difficulty and finish the Boss Rematch mode to unlock all remaining achievements.

Looking Sharp 86% of players Enhance a piece of equipment for the first time. Upgrade any piece of your equipment for the first time after unlocking enhancements at Emma's Hall. Where: Eastern Kyoto

Berserker Cumulative 79.1% of players Defeat 3 enemies with continuous Break Issen attacks. Deplete the guard gauge of three foes in rapid succession and defeat each with a chained Break Issen counter attack.

Howling Wind 76.7% of players Hidden achievement Defeat the wind demon boss Ifuu at Kennin-ji temple. Where: Eastern Kyoto (Windswept Kennin-ji)

Life-Saver 72.7% of players Complete your first Chance Encounter. Complete your first dynamic Chance Encounter side objective marked around Kyoto.

Dokyo's Fixation 72.3% of players Hidden achievement Defeat the boss Greater Nue inside the Imperial Palace grounds. Where: Kyoto Imperial Palace

Mystery Solved 70.3% of players Complete your first Mystery of Kyoto. Complete your first Mystery of Kyoto puzzle or investigation quest in the overworld.

No Dog Left Behind 70.2% of players Rescue your first Lion Dog. Find and cleanse your first corrupted Lion Dog statue in the city.

Winning Is What Matters 69.1% of players Carry out 50 attacks with environmental objects. Interact with the environment by kicking or throwing 50 interactive objects—such as carts and explosive barrels—into Genma.

Benkei: Out, but Not Down 67.5% of players Hidden achievement Defeat the boss Benkei during your initial encounter on Gojo Bridge. Where: Eastern Kyoto (Bloodbath on the Bridge)

A Real Charmer 67.5% of players Enhance a charm to the maximum level. Spend the required souls and offering materials to fully upgrade any equipped charm to its maximum tier.

Second Helping 67.4% of players Hidden achievement Revisit any previously defeated boss encounter in the Practice Ground's Boss Rematch mode and achieve victory.

Crashing Lightning 64.6% of players Hidden achievement Defeat the lightning-wielding boss Burai at the temple grounds. Where: Eastern Kyoto (A Tempest at the Temple)

Helm Splitter 64.3% of players Break 100 shields or pieces of enemy armor. Use guard-breaking heavy techniques or Oni attacks to shatter 100 shields or armor plates off enemies.

Burning Blade Cumulative 62.6% of players Defeat 50 foes while in the Blazing State. Deflect or parry successive strikes to enter the Blazing State, then defeat 50 enemies while your blade remains ignited.

Serves You Right 61.8% of players Defeat the Byakue at Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Slay the Byakue boss found haunting the Kiyomizu slope during the side mission. Where: Kiyomizu-dera Temple (The Curse of Kiyomizu-zaka Slope)

Untouchable 61.5% of players Perform 50 Grab Reversals. Counter 50 unblockable grab attempts from Genma by timing a prompt reversal.

Coming Through! Cumulative 61.3% of players Break an enemy's guard 50 times. Strike guarding enemies with continuous heavy attacks or guard break skills until their guard shatters 50 times.

We Done Here? 52% of players Hidden achievement Track down and defeat Sasaki Ganryu in the duel at Arashiyama's Hozukyo Gorge. Where: Arashiyama

Brutalist 51.5% of players Land 50 Issen attacks. Strike an enemy with a normal blade attack just as their attack is about to land to perform an Issen counter 50 times.

End This Madness 51.3% of players Hidden achievement Complete the main story encounter at the conclusion of Arashiyama by defeating Dokyo. Where: Arashiyama

Health Is Wealth 50.4% of players Enhance a Hozuki Pouch to the maximum level. Upgrade any one of your Hozuki Pouches to its highest level using crafting materials at a Spirit Mirror.

Baited by Benkei 48.9% of players Hidden achievement Defeat Benkei during your rematch against him at Rendaino as part of the story progression. Where: Eastern Kyoto (The Clash at Rendaino)

Oni Armory Collectible 41.3% of players Acquire all Oni Armaments. Find and collect all secondary Oni Armaments hidden throughout the game's regions.

Pinch Hitter 41% of players Deflect 50 projectiles. Time your sword swings to deflect 50 incoming enemy projectiles back at your opponents.

No Job Too Small 35% of players Complete all Chance Encounters. Locate and complete every optional Chance Encounter side quest offered across the maps.

For the Love of Dog 34.5% of players Rescue all the Lion Dogs. Track down and rescue all the stone Lion Dogs scattered throughout the world.

The Winding Way of the Sword 27.5% of players Learn and upgrade all basic or special skills. Unlock and fully upgrade either all basic skills or all special skills in the skill menu.

Wielder of Oni Armaments Cumulative 26.1% of players Defeat 100 enemies with Oni Armaments. Eliminate a cumulative total of 100 Genma using attacks from your equipped Oni Armaments.

Dressed to Kill 21.3% of players Enhance all equipment to the maximum level. Upgrade all your equipment pieces, weapons, and armor slots to their maximum enhancement level.

Well-Rounded 19% of players Learn and upgrade all basic and special skills. Spend your skill points to fully learn and max out both the basic and special skill skill-trees.

Oni's Oni Cumulative 17.9% of players Defeat 50 enemies in the Oni Awakened state. Activate your Oni Awakened transformation and defeat 50 enemies while the form is active.

Citizen Savior 17.7% of players Rescue 30 townspeople from marauding Genma. Intervene in random encounters and defeat Genma to rescue 30 attacked townspeople throughout Kyoto.

Flow State Cumulative 15.7% of players Defeat 50 enemies with Chain Issen attacks. Chain consecutive Issen strikes together during encounters to defeat a total of 50 enemies.

Medical Marvel 15.1% of players Enhance all Hozuki Pouches to the maximum level. Upgrade every single Hozuki Pouch in your inventory to maximum capacity.

Genma Griller 11.9% of players Set three enemies ablaze at once. Use a fire-elemental armament, explosive, or flame skill to catch three Genma on fire simultaneously.

Charmed Life 11.7% of players Enhance all charms to the maximum level. Collect the necessary upgrade materials to level up every charm in your possession to max rank.

Genma-ologist Collectible 10.8% of players Collect all the Genma notes. Locate and collect all the lore-filled Genma notes scattered throughout every region.

True Onimusha Difficulty 9.7% of players Hidden achievement Complete a full playthrough of the campaign on the highest difficulty setting, "Carnage".

Glutton for Punishment Difficulty 8.9% of players Hidden achievement Access Boss Rematch at the Practice Ground and defeat all 18 boss opponents across every difficulty setting. Completing each rematch on the unlocked Carnage difficulty will also retroactively satisfy the requirements for the lower tiers.

Peerless Collectible 6.3% of players Unlock all achievements. Unlock every other achievement in the game. It will automatically trigger once the final achievement has been earned.
