Chapter 3: The New West

Black Myth: Wukong guide · The Destined One ascends into a snowy, temple-filled realm.

The Destined One ventures through the snowy peaks, frozen lakes, and temples of Mount Huaguo's surrounding realm, the New West. Players must break out of the Pagoda Realm, cross the vast Bitter Lake, and storm the New Thunderclap Temple. The primary goal is to defeat Yellowbrow to claim the next relic.

The Apramana Bat spirit and journal entry: From the North Shore of the Bitter Lake Keeper's Shrine, follow the coastline to the far right until you reach a massive serpentine skeleton protruding from the snow. Approach the skull of the massive skeleton to trigger the boss fight and defeat the Apramana Bat. Missable: interacting with the giant turtle skeleton at the far end of the lake triggers a cutscene with Zhu Bajie that despawns the boss for the rest of the playthrough.Defeating the four Captain spirits and completing the Prisoner questline: From the Lower Pagoda Keeper's Shrine, turn right into the open cell containing the seated NPC Prisoner. Defeat Captain Lotus-Vision, Captain Wise-Voice, Captain Void-Illusion, and Captain Kalpa-Wave, then exhaust all dialogue with the Prisoner to hand over their spirits and claim the spearhead. Missable: entering the final boss arena to fight Yellowbrow locks out the questline and prevents turning in the spirits until New Game Plus.

Threats: Lightning blasts, levitating aerial spears, rapid lunging sweeps, and sudden thunder strikes

Weaknesses and resistances: Vulnerable to stagger during ground recovery; resistant to Shock

Tactics: Stay close to bait ground swings, dodge through lightning bolts, and trigger A Pluck of Many or heavy jump attacks right as she descends

Rewards: Loong Pearl, Mind Core, Kang-Jin Staff crafting material

Captain Wise-Voice

Enemies: Captain Wise-Voice

Threats: High-damage arena-wide electric wave shrieks, sweeping laser beams, and stomp shocks

Weaknesses and resistances: Massive weak spot on his glowing head when knocked down; heavily armored legs resistant to direct damage

Tactics: Continuously attack one of his front ankles to trigger a knockdown, then unleash maximum burst damage directly onto his exposed head

Rewards: Mind Core, Curio, Captain Wise-Voice Spirit material

Chen Loong

Enemies: Chen Loong

Threats: Water geysers, lightning-infused polearm thrusts, hovering sweep attacks, and airborne dives

Weaknesses and resistances: Weak to heavy stagger and Immobilize; resistant to Shock and Frost

Tactics: Evade his aerial dive-bombs into the water, close distance between his slow pole swings, and stagger him out of charged casts

Rewards: Ruyi Scroll questline trigger (unlocks the Zodiac Village)

Apramana Bat

Enemies: Apramana Bat

Threats: Gliding aerial sweeps, frost breath cone, soundwave stuns, and high-speed diving claw strikes

Weaknesses and resistances: Low poise makes it susceptible to stagger; resistant to Frost and airborne ranged damage

Tactics: Stand beneath its swoops to force it to land, use Rock Solid to deflect its lunging claw, and exploit its long landing recoveries

Rewards: Apramana Bat Spirit, Cold Iron Leaves

Non-White

Enemies: Non-White

Threats: Fast twin-blade slashing combos, jumping evasion, followed by a phase-two transformation with Poison-infused sword slashes and mist

Weaknesses and resistances: Susceptible to Burn and heavy staggers; phase two has dangerous reach and poison buildup

Tactics: Parry or dodge the rapid initial flurry, apply Immobilize during his phase transition, and use Anti-Miasma Powder to neutralize poison pools in the second phase

Rewards: Non-White Spirit, Blood of the Iron Bull

An optional Captain boss found in the upper levels of the Pagoda Realm who shoots intense laser arrays.

Kang-Jin Loong

A massive lightning dragon fought on the surface of the frozen lake.

Yellowbrow

The main boss of the chapter who turns his body into solid gold to deflect attacks and pulls you inside his magical sack.

Shen Monkey: Upgrades your healing gourds and drinks, sells soaking materials and celestial elixirs

Tips

During the Pagoda Realm's recurring purple mist phase, your maximum health is temporarily halved, so use defensive spells like Cloud Step or Pillar Stance to survive until the chanting stops.
Use heavy charged attacks or the Thrust Stance to shatter Yellowbrow's invulnerable golden form when he coats himself during the boss fight.
