Points of no return
- Restoring the Element of Warmth in Mount Horu (triggering the final chase): Locks the game into the ending sequence, but the Definitive Edition places you back outside the volcano upon reloading the save, so no achievements become permanently impossible in a single run.
Recommended order
-
Step 1Playthrough 1 on Normal difficulty
complete the main story, visit Black Root Burrows early for Dash and Light Burst, achieve 100% map exploration across all areas (Sunken Glades, Hollow Grove, Moon Grotto, Ginso Tree, Thornfelt Swamp, Black Root Burrows, Valley of the Wind, Forlorn Ruins, Sorrow Pass, Mount Horu), collect all Life/Energy cells and Ability points, unlock the full ability tree, and clean up combat and miscellaneous achievements.
-
Step 2Backup or practice run (optional but recommended)
use a copy of your completed save to practice the escape sequences in Ginso Tree, Forlorn Ruins, and Mount Horu without dying, as well as boss chases.
-
Step 3Playthrough 2 on One Life difficulty + speedrun + no ability points
complete the game in under 3 hours without spending any Ability Points on the skill tree and without dying once (stacking "One Life", "Immortal", "Elite", and "Supersonic"). Alternatively, split this into a dedicated Easy mode run for "Elite" and "Supersonic", followed by a separate, focused "One Life" run.
Don't miss in this step- Supersonic: Complete the entire story from start to finish in under 3 hours of in-game time.
- Elite: Beat the game without spending a single Ability Point in the skill tree.
- Immortal: Finish the entire game without suffering a single death.
